Gearing up for Week 9

Happy Halloween, you football ghouls. I was pleasantly surprised to find our grocery store's candy offerings still in decent shape today despite the last-minute nature of my purchase. We live on the top of a pretty big hill in a neighborhood that doesn't seem to have a ton of kids, so we aren't really sure what to expect in terms of trick-or-treaters, but I must say I'm pretty pleased with our stash. However, not so pleased though with some of my Week 9 performances. I had to rely upon Kendall Hunter in not just one but two leagues. Yes, seriously, Kendall Hunter was a starting RB for me...sigh. Most of my leagues are pretty competitive and after bye weeks and Week 8 injury thrashings, Kendall was the best I could do. Fortunately in one league I at least had Ray Rice to balance him out. But hey, they all did better than my Broncos yesterday. Ugh. But enough on my teams, let's get to the Monday wrap-up. Week 8 recaps: Roto Arcade's Sunday Scene: Chris Johnson,

Week 8 consensus start/sit

Well I'm on the road from Knoxville to Atlana and while our son is napping and my husband is chauffeuring, I thought I'd crank out this week's consensus start/sit list. Gotta love smart phones! So here's the consensus list for Week 8 - remember this is based on a tally of players that got the most start/sit votes from all the links I put up this week. As always, good luck! QB Start: Ben Roethlisberger, Joe Flacco, Eli Manning Sit: Tim Tebow, Kevin Kolb, Matt Cassel, Alex Smith RB Start: DeMarco Murray, Darren Sproles, Chris Johnson, Pierre Thomas, Ryan Torain Sit: Maurice Morris, Peyton Hillis, Montario Hardesty, DeAngelo Williams WR Start: Anquan Boldin, Antonio Brown, Marques Colston Sit: Michael Crabtree, Sydney Rice, Reggie Wayne TE Start: Fred Davis Sit: Heath Miller, Greg Olsen, Jermaine Gresham DST Start: Bengals, Giants Sit: Steelers, Vikings, Redskins Kicker Start: Jason Hanson Sit: Adam Vinatieri

Curl up with some good links

It's a cool, rainy day here in east Tennessee and I'm kind of wishing that instead of the rain we were getting the snow that hit our old hometown of Boulder, Colorado, earlier this week (11 inches!). Not so sure Knoxville is going to be seeing 11 inches of snow all winter long though. Your Week 8 lineup helper

My sister-in-law loves Halloween in the way that you and I presumably love fantasy football: it's a deep, somewhat crazy passion. I'm fairly confident that she's been planning her daughter's first Halloween costume since moments after learning she was pregnant. So this weekend we're heading on down to Atlanta to spend the weekend together and enjoy such a major holiday with them. As noted yesterday, you all rocked last week's start/sit accuracy competition from FantasyPros.com. Here's your chance to do it again - answer these 10 questions and demonstrate your fantasy brilliance. Thanks to those 500+ of you that participated in the weekly start/sit competition with FantasyPros.com - you smarties locked us into 3rd place overall with an impressive performance last week. The dudes at FP let me know that out of the 3300+ submissions they had last week, only 14 got all of their 9 questions right last week. Hope those 14 were all FFLibrarian readers! Creating an unstoppable team

This morning was costume day at our son's music class. He rocked his hamburger costume, one of the few pre-made costumes I could find that doesn't require any head wear as part of the costume (that would be removed by our son in about 2.2 seconds; I stared in awe at the other kids who put up with hats, manes, ears, etc). Plus who wouldn't want to be a burger? Maybe I can find my a french fry costume for my niece...now that would be an unstoppable duo. Heading into unchartered territory

I'm hopping on a plane this afternoon and heading to Evanston, IL for my college reunion. My husband's college reunion is also coincidentally this weekend, so he's headed off to his reunion tomorrow morning and for the first time neither of us will spend the night with our son - instead he'll be in the capable hands of his grandparents for about 30 hours. My in-laws are fantastic, our son clearly knows and likes them, and they have years and years of caring for their own kids to lead them through this weekend...but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't anxious about it. Ultimately I'm confident our son will do just fine without us...the real question is probably how we will do without him! Let's talk football now though - there are plenty of unknown quandaries in the fantasy world to tackle (like how on earth did I end up with John Beck on my roster?). Exclusive links for FFLibrarian readers

Last week I mentioned that I was teaming up with RotoExperts.com for a few new features and one of them is an article that they're now writing exclusively for FFLibrarian readers - I'm pretty excited about this series called Awsonimity (Leo Hand's term for the period between the end of one play and the snap for the next; or as RotoExperts author Tim McCullough sees it, kind of the same realm that fantasy players are in during that lineup decision-making time of the week). Read up for a look at the crazy QB stat world we're in and why QBs will absolutely dominate the rankings next year. Time to trade, dynasty leaguers! Here's another link just for FFLibrarian readers - FantasyPros.com's weekly start/sit accuracy challenge . Here are last week's results and once again I urge you all to log your votes on these 10 questions and prove what a fantasy brainiac you are.  Speaking of FantasyPros.com, they've got an awesome new feature that I know you rest-

Lucky week 7 linkage

I've got a busy week on my hands including a trip to Chicago for my 10-year college reunion. I made it to my 5-year reunion under the haze of a major cold and copious amounts of DayQuil, plus honestly, I was pretty much in constant contact with all my closest friends at that time. But now that we've scattered a bit more and don't get to see each other as often, I'm really looking forward to the weekend. Will do my best to get my normal posts up but Friday and Saturday might be a bit shorter and sparser than usual. But for now, we've got plenty of links... Fall fun for Week 6

This weekend the weather in east Tennessee is supposed to be phenomenal and we are headed to a pumpkin patch for a little fall family fun. It's quite possible that I'm more excited about the hayride, pumpkin selection, corn maze, etc than our son will be. Then again, he went absolutely bananas when we rode around on a kid-sized train a few weeks ago, so I imagine he'll be pretty enthralled with the hayride alone. Good times ahead - man, I love fall. It's start/sit decision time, my good readers. Head on over to FantasyPros.com and represent FFLibrarian.com with your best guesses on 10 quick start/sit questions . We're stuck right around 6th place in the competition with a little over 500 of you participating last week...let's take it up a level here this week. Read the below superb advice and then vote, vote, vote like the fantasy gurus that you are. Check out what Yahoo has added to their Week 6 rankings - the far right column is FantasyPros' Who to Start feature where you can pick two players and compare. The only bummer here is that Yahoo doesn't have a flex ranking so you can't compare a WR to an RB or TE. Acquisition advice for Week 6

I just bought a 100 foot hose. Never imagined I would possibly need that much hose in my life, but our backyard wranglers finished clearing the kudzu in our yard yesterday and put down some grass seed and straw. Just about the only thing I know about grass seed is that we need to water it, and the hose we already own is far too short to stretch down our steep hill. Seriously, we're a two-hose family now. Speaking of surprise acquisitions, you might have a few changes needed for your fantasy squad(s) and if that's the case, then look no further: Waiver wire links: Razzball.com's Week 6 Waivering Wire ProFootballWeekly.com's Fantasy Ticker: Week 6   ProFootballFocus.com's Waiver Wire - Week 6 includes FAAB values Athlon Sports' Waiver Wire Week 6 FakeTeams' Waiver Wire Scoops FantasySharks.com's Waiver Wire Wonders  FFToday.com's Through the Wire (includes a few IDP suggestions) ESPN's Free-agent finds: Week 6 Week 6 flex rankings fr

The consensus names are listed below in no particular order. Building a fantasy fortress

This is Day #2 of having a team of dudes in our backyard jungle, clearing out about half the yard from years of overgrowth, zero care, and massive kudzu. I wish I could fully describe how junglerific it is back there - might need to get my hands on photo. We've unearthed all sorts of random junk - such as an old dog carrier, basketball, and an untold number of beer cans - that were eaten and totally hidden by the kudzu. Now the kudzu is being piled up at the curb creating quite a nice fortress effect. It's Friday and you guys know what that means - lots more start/sit links and a bevy of rankings and projections. Start/sit links: WalterFootball.com's Start em, Sit em Gridiron Experts' Start 'em Sit 'em - a new link for me, interesting and different way of doing the start/sit by charting players at each position with suggestions from all of their staff members (and tracking how well each staff member is doing over the season). I dropped my husband off at the airport this morning - he's headed to a conference in Vail for a long weekend. Those of you who have been around the blog long enough to know we lived in Boulder, Colorado, for many years can guess just how jealous I am to not be joining my husband. But I've got gorgeous weather, Week 5 football, and a happy toddler to keep me company this weekend. It's that time of the week - FantasyPros.com's start/sit accuracy challenge for Week 5 is ready. Head on over and answer 10 quick start/sit questions to demonstrate just how smart FFLibrarian readers are - we're in 6th place in the challenge and I'd love to pull ahead! Getting the week 5 lived in look

I feel like a real homeowner this week - we're getting our fireplace cleaned and repaired today, and tomorrow we're getting a massive chunk of our jungle/kudzu yard cleared. Our home is slowly appearing lived in and cleaned up - oh wait, perhaps the massive quantity of toys scattered throughout the house give it just the lived in look it needs. Last week over 500 of you submitted votes for FantasyPros.com's weekly start/sit accuracy challenge - thank you guys! Here are the results , looks like we're in 6th place though it's all fairly tight. I'll be sure to get Week 5's link up when it's ready. The Week 5 action is rolling, so let's scope it out: A couple of remaining waiver wire-ish articles for you: RotoExperts.com's Alex's Audibles should be helpful for those of you in 2-QB leagues and there's a blurb for salary cap folks, too. Well it's far later in the day than I had planned to get this post up - nap scheduling just didn't jive with my posting plans. But better late than never! So somehow despite having 53+ points from Aaron Rodgers on one of my teams, I still lost by a slim margin in Week 4. Add in the excessive family puke fest over the weekend and it was not a good week for me clearly. I'm ready to move on.
