2013 rankings, strategy pieces, news items, etc

Whoa. A lot of time has gone by since my last post. I'll be upfront here: my normal schedule of posting probably won't happen this year but I promise to do my best. And at least start updating far more often now that we're approaching July and your draft prep needs are likely increasing.

All is well in my world - in fact, all is going really well. I'm about 6 months pregnant with another little boy and due at the end of September. Some of you may remember the pregnancy heartbreak that my family experienced last summer and you'll know what joy this brings me. Joy and moments of panic, but I'm being treated with kid gloves by all the doctors and nurses and so far, this baby looks as healthy as can be. All else is going well in our family - we're not moving any time soon for a change of pace and our son is thriving. What could be better? I have plenty of tales of him doing crazy/weird/exciting/unwelcome/dazzling things over the past 6 months but basically life is good.

We're traveling like crazy for the next several weeks (oh and my greatest triumph in recent history is conquering a 5-hour flight delay/layover with our toddler in tow at the Denver airport earlier this week) so that might add to my slowness in posting for a bit, but know that I'm back at it for the season. E-mail me or leave a comment if you have any thoughts on what you'd really like to see in my posts this year - I always welcome feedback.

So let's not waste any extra time here - your linkage, my friends:
  • 2013 preseason rankings galore:
  • A few draft strategy type of pieces:
  • 4for4.com has a look at offensive lines, which of course I love to see - take a look at their 2013 Offensive Lines: Winners and Losers.
  • If you're looking for an update on all things that have happened on the free agent scene, Rotoworld has you covered with their positional updates in 2013 NFL Free Agents.
  • This is the time of year for researching which sites out there you'll want on your fantasy radar this summer and fall. There are a few recent articles out there to help you in your search:
    • DavidGonos.com's The Best 2013 Fantasy Football Rankings - these sites aren't necessarily the most accurate rankings but are sites whose rankings bring a little something extra in the layout, features, style realm.
    • Dynasty League Football's Links takes a look at some top sites including those for news, analysis, draft analysis, blogs, commissioner sites, etc. If you're a FFLibrarian regular, you'll probably recognize a bunch of these sites but there are some new ones in there so definitely scope it out.
  • One of the true characters in the land of fantasy football experts is Scott Engel of RotoExperts - extremely nice and truly entertaining dude - and you can catch a flavor of that in his video-style Five Must Haves in Fantasy Football 2013.
Speaking of fantasy experts, have you all heard that Matthew Berry's book Fantasy Life is coming out this summer? I've got an early copy here waiting for me to dig in and read up - get yours this July or better yet, encourage your local library to order a copy. Hey, I'm a librarian through and through here.

Also, those of you who utilize rss feed readers, do tell, what are you using now that Google Reader is nearly gone? I'm searching for a replacement and would love to know if any of you have suggestions.

I started using TheOldReader.com. Very similar in style to Google Reader. Have a great summer!

Nice article. I enjoyed the streaming quarterback strategy links.

I seem to have settled on TheOldReader which is very similar to Google Reader and made an easy transition.

The new RotoViz site mentioned in the DLF post has got some pretty incredible stuff on it and some interactive similarity score tools that are just awesome. It's got a leaky paywall, so you can sample an article a day without paying, and if you like it enough that you decide to subscribe, that's a win-win.

I'm using NetVibes. I actually like it better than g reader but it takes a while to set up.

Hey there!

That is a good idea on suggesting that the library get the Fantasy Life book.

I'm using Feedly right now. I have used NetVibes in the past and may try and set it up again...or maybe my old Football Jabber account is still there and I won't have to.

Hi, thanks for all the work you put into this every year. I really appreciate you being the hub for all the great info.

I haven't used TheOldReader, but I would also suggest you take a look at Commafeed.

Congrats! I'm using Feedly right now - I don't love it but it was a very easy transition.

I second Feedly. I'm loving it. The only thing it's missing is a search capability. But they seem to listen to their users.

Labor Day FF links

Happy long weekend! Here's hoping most of you are free to enjoy the 3-day weekend and the relaxation and fun that comes with it. I spent my Sunday participating in 3 fantasy football drafts scattered throughout the day and night, but I think I've finally wrapped up my drafts for the year. So like many of you I'm now turning my attention to the Week 1 games! But before we get to some player rankings and prep for Week 1, I want to make sure that all you experts out there are aware of the upcoming deadline for the annual accuracy contest that I run with the Fantasy Sports Trade Association. I compare preseason positional rankings from experts to the final outcome of the fantasy season to see which site had the most accurate preseason rankings, and this year's deadline is fast approaching: September 9th by kickoff. Check out the info on the FSTA site for more details and be sure to e-mail me your submissions. Now, onto Week 1! First up, let's get to some of this

2010 Week 2 consensus start/sit

Greetings and happy weekend. I've got this week's consensus start/sit for you which is a tally of all the start/sit votes that players received in the various start/sit articles that I linked to earlier in the week. So while these aren't my personal recommendations, I do think knowing what the consensus is could be of help when making lineup decisions...so enjoy! Note: the players are listed in no particular order. QB Start: Michael Vick, Kyle Orton, Matt Ryan, Jason Campbell Sit: David Garrard, Alex Smith, Jay Cutler, Vince Young, Carson Palmer RB Start: LeSean McCoy, Darren McFadden, Ahmad Bradshaw, Brandon Jackson Sit: Tim Hightower, C.J. Spiller, Beanie Wells, Ronnie Brown WR Start: Santana Moss, Legedu Naanee, Malcolm Floyd, Mike Williams (TB), Dez Bryant Sit: Randy Moss, Michael Crabtree TE Start: Chris Cooley, Todd Heap, John Carlson, Jermichael Finley Sit: Jermaine Gresham, Owen Daniels, Tony Scheffler, Jeremy Shockey, Bo Scaife Kicker Start: La

Start/Sit Week 4 and a smattering of rankings

It's been awhile, my fantasy football friends. I have lofty intentions of getting several posts up here each week, but life is busy and I will do my best. So in the intervening 6 years since I've posted regularly on here, our family added another child (now there are 3!), moved back to Boulder for a sabbatical year and then returned to Knoxville, and we have basically been chugging along like many of the rest of you. My two boys (who turn 12 and 9 soon) are in a fantasy football league for the first time this year with their buddies, which ostensibly is the just the dads (and mom!) playing one another of course. But my oldest is taking it super seriously and what kind of Fantasy Football Librarian would I be if I didn't step up my game for him? So I'm back - and am interested in the fantasy landscape - lots of the same awesome sites out there, but many new ones as well. I'll try to incorporate a mix. Please be sure to let me know if my 2006 ways aren't working i
