Wrapping up July with fantasy news

Greetings FFers! I hope the rest of you are in far more temperate weather than I am in right now...it's supposed to be at the 100 degree mark for the next several days here in Colorado - and when you combine the hot temps and strong sun it's just brutal out here. I will be running in a race tonight, too (a short one though!), which definitely feels a bit crazy right now. The real question here will be: how red can my face get?? But back to football. Sad day in Broncos Country with John Lynch being granted his release today . For more football links, read on: FF Geek Blog has a handful of guys you might want to think about grabbing in their 2008 Sleepers and undervalued players article. The news that Reggie Williams will undergo knee surgery makes me think a little bit harder about Garrard this season. Don't get me wrong, I think Garrard definitely has it in him but with both Williams and Jerry Porter recovering from surgery, I just have a few more question marks surroundin

Beyond the Obvious with IDP's

My next article with the Bruno Boys' A Librarian's Touch column is up - Beyond the Obvious with IDPs . In this column I took a look at the IDPs (individual defensive players) in my dynasty league and evaluated them plus a handful of rookies and FAs that are still available. Enjoy!

And training camp rolls on...

As training camp continues across the NFL, I can't encourage you all enough to stay on top of training camp news. I'll probably beat this issue to a pulp over the next few weeks, but there's nothing more enlightening for a draft than news eking out from camp. So hey, feel free to check back here often or try some of the usual suspects like KFFL , Rotoworld , FF Xtreme , ESPN - they all will have the latest and greatest camp news up asap. In other camp news, I'm on the hunt for a website that keeps a list of all the training camp blogs/sites out there. Anyone have suggestions? In the meantime, keep yourselves entertained with Rotoworld's Nine stories to know from camp . I'll be honest, I'm still not 100% sold on Marvin Harrison being back to his old self but I'm willing to be convinced. If someone wanted to oh I don't know, fly me out to the Colts' training camp to see for myself, I'd be okay with that. But onto the links for the day: Want fr

Revving up to evaluate the experts

As many of you know, I spent some time over the past year or so looking at how the fantasy football experts did in their preseason ranking s - which sites were the most accurate? Was one site particularly good with RBs or maybe WRs? I've only looked at about 2 years worth of data (and in many cases, really just one year) and my rankings of the rankings are hardly without fault...but it's time to start looking at the 2008 preseason rankings. Below is a list of the sites that I was able to access (either for free or the site comped me access to their rankings) and evaluate in the past. Some of you have requested additional sites be added for this year and beyond - so if you don't see a site listed below and you'd like to know how it does at the end of the 2008 season, let me know! 1. Rotoworld 2. Ask The Commish 3. FootballGuys.com 4. FF Cheatsheets 5. NFL.com 6. FFToolbox 7. CBS Sports 8. Yahoo! Sports 9. Fantasy Football Xtreme 10. Fox Sports 11. Pigskin Addiction 12.

Mock draft wrap-up and Ledyard, CT fan

If you came to FF Librarian this morning at 8:47 AM eastern time from Ledyard , Connecticut, you are my 100,000 th visitor. Congratulations and I will happily (and perhaps slowly) reward you with some sort of FFL shwag if you are interested. If this could be you, send me your IP address and I can confirm if it's correct or not. So I have just now finished The Hazean's e-mail mock draft that was just 4 rounds long. My first two picks were Randy Moss (1.12) and Reggie Wayne (2.01); with rounds 3 and 4 I wanted to grab some RBs for my team, so based on the following picks from round 3, I went with the following guys... 3rd Round: Curveballs 4 Jesus: Jamal Lewis Sean McCall/Football Outsiders: Marques Colston Football Burrito Tony Romo Pancake Blocks: Chad Johnson West Coast Nonsense: T.J. Houshmandzadeh Bruno Boys: Steve Smith The Hazean : Brandon Marshall Football Jabber: Plaxico Burress Fantasy Football Fools: Edgerrin James Fantasy Football Geek Blog: Torry Holt Fantas

More RBBC material - and visitor 100,000!

In my recent column with the Bruno Boys , I commented on the lack of articles that address some of the more difficult RBBC (running back by committee) situations. There are a few gems out there, though, and apparently more are cropping up every day. Take a look at a few: The Huddle's The 2008 Ultimate RBBC Review - I realize this article is only partially free for non-Huddle members. But I'm a non-Huddle member who can only read the first 4 or so reviews, and I still think it's worth your time. Now if you are a Huddle member, you're probably in for a treat. And by the way, I apparently can't stop reading and linking to John Tuvey's articles; he's got quite the fan club (um, why can't my last name be turned into something as hipster as his? tuvey =2v. I mean, really - that's fantastic. It's the small things in life...). If you haven't read his o-line analysis that I linked to in this blog post yet, go check them out (again, only partiall

Beer + FF = hot times

If I love beer, I can only imagine that the vast majority of you all love beer as well (however in an interesting side note, according to research conducted by the Fantasy Sports Trade Association in 2007, 21.4% of fantasy football players don't drink beer). So when I received an e-mail this morning about a Redhook Brewery sweepstakes, I immediately started paying attention. Enter to win the Redhook Fantasy Football Trash Bash and you might be taking home a Redhook Toolbox Fridge and other prizes. My husband has been angling to spend our tax rebate check on a mini kegerator...now while I'm all for beer, there are probably about 50 other things that we could do with that money first. So if I could win the Redhook fridge, I'd be a step closer to making his beer dreams come true. Onto our next link of the day - what goes better with beer and football than kids? Hmm. Right. Well this next link might be of interest to those of you with little ones who would like to get them in

Returning from Columbus to the start of training camp

First things first, I actually enjoyed the Ohio State campus and my general Columbus experience this past weekend far more than I anticipated. I just returned from a trip to Columbus for a college roommate's wedding and I had a fantastic time; though am now likely sick after a trip that included 4 different flights and a lot of sleep loss. Four footballish things I learned from this trip: Buckeye fans, you have a fine stadium. My apologies for considering peeing on the side. But you guys still remain my football nemesis... Never discount the chance that the father of the bride will show the entire crowd his OSU boxers during his toast at the reception. There was Buckeye pride everywhere I looked. And football is um, kind of a big deal. On one of my teeny flights out of Columbus, there was a guy behind me that used to be on the Rams' practice squad (I'm sure he was thrilled to squeeze his larger frame into the small plane seat). Football seemed to be everywhere; football is

Bruno Boys Draft Magazine!

So I'm particularly psyched to announce that the Bruno Boys' Draft Ma gazine is up and available for review as of today - go check it out! The Bruno Boys continuously put together great content for fantasy footballers and I'm pleased to be joining them a bit this season. I have an o-line update in their draft magazine but I'll also be doing a weekly column every Tuesday on their site, which I believe they're calling A Librarian's Touch. It will be a little different than what I do on this blog since I'm usually just sending you out to a bunch of different fantasy sites here - on their site I'll actually be giving you my thoughts and opinions. Hmm, we'll see how that pans out...I think my first column will likely be next Tuesday, so stay tuned! In other news, I am heading out tomorrow for Columbus, Ohio, to be a part of my friends Beth and Bart's wedding. If you've paid attention to my college football rants in the past, you may know that I a

Rare Peyton news

In my house, Peyton is a bit of a demi-god. My husband grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee and I quickly learned that that comes with an innate sense of Peyton Love (Peyton was a Vol). My husband has joked about one day naming our firstborn Peyton Manning. Yeah, not just Peyton, but Peyton Manning. And I'm not entirely sure how much he's really joking. So Peyton news is a big deal for us. However, I don't think that this bursa sac news of Peyton's is worth too much attention. Will it even drop Peyton in drafts (or mock drafts) at all? Perhaps a few spots but the guy is a machine - he produces season after season and I don't think I'll let routine surgery like this keep me from drafting a stellar QB like Peyton. And I mean that despite the Peyton Mania in my household... So yesterday I mentioned the mock draft that I am slowly doing via e-mail - this morning we finally got around to my 1.12 and 2.01 picks...who did I take? Well here's who was drafted so far: 1.

FFL and del.icio.us

So for quite some time now I've had an account with del.icio.us ( what is del.icio.us? ) to help me maintain a list that bookmarks some of my favorite fantasy football websites. I think it's about time I share that del.icio.us list with you all, even though I run the risk of you all bypassing my site and going straight to some of my bookmarks...so take a look on the right side of the blog - towards the bottom you should see my del.icio.us link roll or I'm pretty sure you can just go here . I'm in the process of cleaning my bookmarks up, making sure I have the right site name down, the best tags possible (you can see I'm extremely creative with my tags) and other such matters. So if you notice any errors, don't be surprised. And if you have any new site suggestions, please let me know - I'm always looking for more...

More mock drafts & seeing the Broncos, baby!

Right now I'm part of a really slow mock draft; I'll be honest, it's just 4 rounds and it started last Wednesday. Kind of thought we'd be done by now, but somehow we're not even to the end of the 1st round. I'm just as flummoxed on that one as the rest of you - I'm drafting 12th of 12 in that league, so I'm just gearing up for my first two picks and am really intrigued by the choices I have facing me: do I grab one RB and Randy Moss? Two RBs? One RB and Peyton Manning? There's still one more guy to pick before my turn arrives, so I might not have the luxury of picking Randy or Peyton, but so far I'm liking these options quite a bit... In other news, individual game Broncos tickets went on sale this past weekend and I will be in attendance at the Broncos vs. Saints game on September 21. I am going to be traveling a lot this fall so my options were somewhat limited - but I must say, their home schedule is pretty awful. Not exactly matchups that I&

Construction madness means turning to football

So for those of you who are new to this site, I really am a librarian - it's not just a blog name, I work as a librarian at a university in Colorado and our library has just started a major construction project. The start of the project involves overhauling two huge rooms just outside my office - and anyone who has dealt with construction in their workplace or home might see where I am going with this...the noise this morning has been close to unbearable and this is just the beginning. Soon there will be the removal of entire walls and glass panels as well as the joys of drilling into concrete. I'm scoping out possible new "office" locations for the rest of the summer and am wondering if actually I just need to concentrate on fantasy football above all else. I really am starting to worrying about my Broncos' #1 WR ... Brandon, what is going on?? ProFootballWeekly takes a look at six training camp battles for QB from a fantasy perspective ...frankly, you probably

Holiday Weekend Recovery

I'm recovering from a very relaxing long weekend by easing my way into the work day - hope you all enjoyed some time off as well. I have to say, I did not see a single firework but I watched a hell of a lot of Olympic trials for track & field. My husband ran in college and we are therefore a dedicated track & field household - but truly, who doesn't love seeing runners move at unbelievable speeds? I must admit it's really just the track events that I dig. Sorry long and high jumpers, but the field events just don't hold my interest nearly as much as the track stuff. Anyway, back to football. I'll try to stay focused on football throughout this Olympic season but apparently I'm easily distracted. So for the latest on all things football, read on... He'll retire, he'll retire not, he'll retire, he'll retire not...who's to say what will happen with Favre but for the latest on why we might know within the next 10 days, check out SI's

What's the circumference of your thigh, please?

Earlier this week I was chatting with a friend who is going to represent the FF Librarian in an "experts" league this fall (yes, I'm eating up the fact that the FFL is part of not just one but two expert leagues this fall...even if they are self-defined as expert leagues...), and he mentioned that a guy he knows has developed a correlation between a running back's performance and the circumference of that RB's thigh. Oh yeah, baby - leg mass = ranking metric. I thought I'd heard of a lot of crazy stuff out there to help narrow down draft rankings, but this was a new one. The guys over at Sports Data Hub are getting ready to wow us all with a brand new stats world this summer, and now I'm hoping that SDH might include thigh circumference as one of their many tools for analysis. Kidding. But only a little. Someone recently asked if I could provide some more links to rankings by tiers. I'll try to get as many tier links up over the next few weeks, but fo
