2010 Week 17 start/sit links

Greetings, friends. Happy almost New Year's Eve and happy college bowl season. I can only assume you'll all be pulling for my Northwestern Wildcats when they play in some random bowl on Saturday. To be honest, I'm not particularly excited about their chances since their QB (who is basically 90% of their offense) was injured for the rest of the season back in November. We survived our holiday travels and made it back to Brooklyn last night all in one piece. While we probably didn't endear ourselves to all of our fellow travelers thanks to some occasional meltdowns from our little dude, it certainly wasn't as bad as it could have been. And hey, we missed the chaos surrounding the major blizzard here in NYC while we were gone, so that's something to be grateful for! A reminder that there's a FFLibrarian Playoff Challenge again this year - basically it's a fresh slate to prove your fantasy wisdom. I'm working on a prize for the winner this year so s

Week 17 linkage

Greetings fantasy footballers. It seems particularly awesome to me that our fantasy football season has just been extended for another day - who doesn't want yet another night when we can watch the NFL, right? I love that it's a fairly solid game, too, that might make a big difference for a bunch of championships. Good luck to you all! Unfortunately for me I already know that I have lost the championship game...to my husband of all people. I will not be living this one down for a long, long time I'm sure. I have Jamaal Charles' multiple touchdowns to thank for my fantasy demise this week. Before I get to Week 17 links (since I know there are plenty of you rockin it for Week 17), I wanted to remind you all that I do a fantasy playoffs league of sorts every year. All readers are invited to play in the FFLibrarian Playoff Challenge group that I usually run through NFL.com's Playoff Challenge - here's a link to the FFLibrarian group and if you have trouble joinin

Week 16 Consensus Start/Sit List

We survived our first flight with our little dude flying from my family down to my husband's family - it helped that the flight was only about 1.5 hours long and bless the kind people in front of us who told us that we all did very well. Clearly they blocked out the many cries coming from our tiny man. But now we're waiting for the rest of the family to arrive so I've got some time to get your consensus start/sit list up for you. For those celebrating Christmas today, hope it has been a merry one! QB Start: David Garrard, Tim Tebow (even as a Denver fan it pains me to type that a bit...not sure I'd trust Tebow this week) Sit: Eli Manning, Mark Sanchez, Ben Roethlisberger RB Start: LeGarrette Blount, BJGE, Ryan Torain, Ronnie Brown, Marshawn Lynch Sit: LT, Brandon Jacobs, Peyton Hillis WR Start: Vincent Jackson, Kenny Britt, Mike Williams Sit: Chad Ochocinco, Johnny Knox, Hines Ward, Santonio Holmes TE Start: Kevin Boss, Owen Daniels, Rob Gronkowski Sit:

Holiday happenings in fantasyland

Hmm, I knew the holidays would be crazy since they always are - trying to juggle various factions of my family, trying to see my friends, and the added bonus of tending to our little dude has made things a bit challenging around here. Thanks for bearing with me during my quiet week here; championship time is no time for me to go dark! Let's get to today's links - lots of start and sit advice with a dash of rankings. If you're still hanging around, congrats! That means you at least have a fighting chance to win your league and you might even just be fine-tuning your dominant, masterful, A+ team that you developed over the course of reading all these helpful articles. Before we get to even more awesome links I just wanted to give you all a heads up that my postings this week will be sporadic at best since we're heading home to see family for the holidays tomorrow. I'll be sure to get some start/sit links up by the end of the week and will of course do my best to get that consensus list up. Friday's start/sit links for Week 15

Hope you have all made it through the last work day of the week and are ready for the weekend! I for one am ready to get a little more Christmas shopping done (I'm all about online shopping for the convenience these days, baby) and plan to hunker down on Sunday for game day since it looks to be a bit snowy here in NYC. Webb trickeration and other Week 15 tips

One of the reasons I absolutely love doing this blog is the fact that you all send some of the more interesting and helpful e-mails with your own tips about websites or players. Yesterday I heard from a reader that very wisely pointed out that Joe Webb (Vikings QB) could be a very tricky and clever play for those of you in need of a WR - if he's healthy and starts at QB this week. Yup, you read that right. If you're in a Yahoo league, Webb is eligible at both the QB and WR spots and while he won't put up a tremendous stat line for a QB, he might well be able to top your WR3's numbers and is someone to consider this week if you're in a tight spot. Waivers with a bit of dynasty tossed in

Well it's the time of year when fantasy articles start to thin out - and really if you're still here and reading this blog, then please give yourself a pat on the back. Job well done, you're still in it to win it. Or you're here for dynasty info, I have a small dose of advice on that front. So let's get right to it... Advice to get Week 15 prep going

Oh the Broncos are dismal; the weather here is rather dismal; I dismally went to the dentist today and learned a filling needs to be redone; and my cat is dismally on his way to the vet to get a spot on his leg checked out that he's been chewing at like crazy (probably his protest for having an infant in the house, stealing his snuggle time). So things are mildly dismal in the FFLibrarian world except for the fact that we magically have two MNF games tonight...and that infant, oh he slept for over 8 hours one night this weekend. Solid. My return to sanity and normalcy is in sight, my friends. Enjoy the double MNF night and I hope you all are looking at great numbers from your first weekend of the playoffs (despite Aaron Rodgers of course). Hope this links help! Week 14 rankings, start/sit, etc

Big times in the FFLibrarian household tonight - my husband is a Colts fan so tonight's Thursday Night Football game, which really the Colts must, must, must win, is going to be the focus of our evening here. As if a TNF game ever is not the focus of my Thursday evenings! But here's to a big night full of fantasy points whether you're already in the playoffs or fighting for your playoffs spot. Some of you might remember a site called FantasyIQ.com that I linked to last season - they're back now and are rolling out their new and improved start/sit interactive advice. FF links = ideal holiday present

Happy middle of the week! In less than two weeks we'll be back on the train headed to Virginia to spend the first half of Christmas with my family, followed by the second half in Tennessee with my husband's family. Unfortunately we're far, far behind on the present train and are going to need to make some serious progress over the next few days. Our families will probably get the "here, we made you a grandson/nephew for Christmas" line but it would be nice to have a little something under the tree for them as well. So Santa Sara will have to kick it into high gear soon...in the meantime, consider these daily links a sort of holiday gift to you all. Enjoy! Making the unlikely happen

Remember last week how I mentioned our need to pull to the lead in the waiver wire run for daycare for our little dude? Well we've had some major success and he's got a 3-days-a-week spot waiting for him in January, which to me might just be the equivalent of making the fantasy playoffs. No, scratch that, even winning my whole damn league. It's an awesome feeling when something you think is unlikely to happen actually pulls through...and makes your life that much easier. So here's to those of you who were on the playoffs cusp and actually made it in - kudos, and may these links lead to your continued success! By now I think you all might be familiar with the site FantasyPros.com which has been looking at the weekly accuracy of experts' rankings and start/sit advice. Flying into Week 13 links

Just bought a ticket to fly out to Colorado with our son to visit friends next month. My husband is flying out a few days ahead of us for a conference so I've got some fun times alone with an infant on a plane. I'm in awe of any and all parents that do this with some frequency as the idea alone freaks me out enough that I considered trying to talk my mom into do a hellish one day fly-to-CO-and-back-home kind of trip. Then I realized it's time to man up though, right? In between worrying about a trip that's weeks away though I of course found some more Week 13 links for you. Could be a waiver wire coup

So we're going through one of the ultimate real life waiver wire-esque experiences. Back in July we toured a few daycare centers so that I can go back to work part-time at my library gig in January...but being New York City, that's far easier said than done. When we signed up for the wait lists at these daycares, we were roughly 80th and 40th at two different places. Sweet. Nothing like queueing up with the rest of Brooklyn for the chance at a spot. Yesterday I talked to one of the daycares (the latter one where we were 40th) and there might be an opening for our little dude but it depends on whether some of the folks in front of us are still interested; in essence, will they put their waiver claim in or will we get the spot? We should know in the next day or so and I must say this is weighing heavily on my mind. Could be as great of a coup as my Marques Colston waiver acquisition of 2006. Speaking of waivers, still plenty on that front to bring you as well as more prep for W

Like much of the country, I did not make it through all of the MNF game last night and was in and out tending to our little dude and finally conked out at halftime to get some sleep. When I woke up for a middle of the night baby feeding though I caught up on the news that Frank Gore is out for the remainder of the season . Goodbye 12, hello 13

So we returned home from our trip to northern Virginia for Thanksgiving with my family to a find a real treasure from our cat sitter: he had flushed non-flushable cat litter down the toilet for some unknown reason. This being our one and only toilet made the past day or two rather unpleasant but thanks to the wonder of a snake and our building maintenance dudes, we're back in business. The owner of the cat sitting company apologized profusely for the complete incompetence of this dude (I mean seriously, what was he thinking? Clay + water = cement) and now I'm a bit of an expert on home remedies for clearing toilets...so no major complaints really. Here's hoping your FF team isn't in the toilet, so to speak, and that today's waiver wire links will be of help to you: First up, in case you missed any of this weekends games while traveling and such, no problem, my friends. Thanksgiving Week waivers, start/sit, etc

For the second time since we brought our tiny bundle of joy home, I got over 5 hours of sleep in a row last night. It was pretty sweet. Even better than beating my husband pretty thoroughly this past weekend in one of the leagues we play in together (though for the sake of full disclosure, he did beat me in another league this week). But the awesome sleep came at a price: our little dude was an unhappy camper for many hours yesterday, which makes the long sleep a bit more bittersweet. But we're on the cusp on a long, holiday weekend and I've got lots of links for you. One of the great things about our friends and family knowing we're such big football fans means we've got a wide array of NFL and college team gear for our son. And I mean wide. We can have him rocking Northwestern, University of Tennessee, University of Colorado, University of Michigan, Broncos, Patriots, Colts, and/or Titans gear. So many solid options, it's a good thing he's skilled at going through more than one outfit a day. College Gameday will be at the Northwestern vs Illinois matchup this week since it's taking place at Wrigley Field (first time Gameday has been at - and I use "at" quite loosely in this case - Northwestern since the mid-90s I believe) and the Broncos play on Monday night. I can't believe how quickly this season is cruising by - Thanksgiving will be here in just over a week and I'm starting to think about our travels down to see my family in Virginia for the holiday. Not waivering over Vick

I'm a bit of an animal enthusiast - I'm a cat owner and long-time dog lover (as my mom can attest to since I spent the majority of my childhood begging for a dog, despite the fact that the rest of my family is allergic to them) and after watching Food Inc recently I have been dabbling with the idea of just going total vegetarian. So my protest of Michael Vick this season has been to avoid him in any and all fantasy leagues even though he is probably THE acquisition of the season. I know, not much of a protest, but hey, it's a way of saying what this guy did to dogs was not okay in my book...so of course this makes his monumental performance last night a bit of a sticky wicket. Sure, I'd love to have his points and kudos to Vick for coming back to the league and showing what an incredible athlete he is . But I maintain that I'd rather lose a thousand times to his massive fantasy points and maintain my Vick protest. ( Update: Wow. You guys are getting personal and in

Rolling with what's hot in Week 10

As you parents out there can surely understand, the past few weeks have been like riding a carousel of ever-changing baby-shushing instruments. One week our little dude is perfectly silenced in a swing, the next week our magical tool is bouncing on a balance ball (which let me tell you is more than just a little physically taxing when the bouncing lasts and lasts and lasts), and this week it's rolling around our apartment and hallways in his stroller. What works one week might not work the next...and that's so true in fantasy football, too, my friends: sometimes you've gotta eschew what has worked in the past and just roll with what's hot right now. A helping hand for Week 10

Tomorrow my mom is coming up to NYC for a speedy visit to see her grandson and provide a couple extra hands to help out. She's apparently bringing some meals up with her that she has fixed and frozen for us, and I must admit that sounds pretty dreamy right now. One less thing to do! Now there's a good chance that I might be a bit slow in getting posts up over the next few days, but don't worry, I won't forget about getting start/sit and rankings links out to you all! Really having my mom around to help me out probably means more time for me to help you all out...so here's to my mom! Meanwhile, let's get to today's articles: A few more waiver wire links in case you haven't pulled the trigger yet on waiver additions: Matthew Berry's Getcher QBs here! T Minus 2 for Thursday Night Football!

Can you believe we're already at Week 10, the starting point for Thursday Night Football? I'm shocked at how quickly this season has flown by and I'm starting to get those old it's-all-moving-by-too-quickly feelings and wondering (as I seem to do every year) what I'll do with my Sundays come February. Getting ahead of myself a bit? Well then I'll reel it back in and give you a bunch of waiver wire suggestions for this week and other FF tidbits: Waiver wire wisdom: ProFootballWeekly.com's Fantasy Ticker: Week 10 FFGeekBlog's The Wire: Week 10 Pick-ups Football Docs' Waiver Wire FantasySharks.com's Waiver Wire Wonders KFFL.com's Waiver Wire: QB - Week 10 (other positions linked off that page) The Sports Outlaw's Waiver Wire Week 10   FantasyPros911.com's Week 10 Waiver Wire Pickups Rotoworld's Steaming Ocho comments on a bunch of news and such from around the league but what sort of stopped me in my tracks was the note th

Welcome to this week's consensus start/sit list. Just a reminder that this list is a tally of those players receiving the most start or sit votes from the experts in the various start/sit articles that I linked to during the week. Pinning hopes on expert lineup advice

It will come as a surprise to no one that I've researched the heck out of life with a newborn during these first few weeks of his life - and again, probably to no one's surprise, all the research in the world can't quite prepare you for the real deal. But one thing that I'm hoping will come true and evolve just as the research details is the idea that once an infant passes the 6 week mark, that life starts to get easier. I've hung my hopes on these words of wisdom since they come from multiple experts who have dealt with thousands of babies, and who am I to argue with baby experts? Plus I'm more or less desperate to believe that easier days are right around the corner. You might be feeling the same way about your fantasy teams - maybe your teams are barely still in the race and you're pinning all your playoff hopes on advice from the experts. So if expert advice is what you're looking for, well I've got plenty of it, my friends. Read on for a start

A visual approach to NFL stats

It's a nasty day here in NYC - cold and rainy. Perfect day to curl up at home, oh say, with a warm and cuddly baby? Lucky me. Kudos to my boss for sending me a link to Juice Analytics' visual take on football stats - I love that this shows both offensive skill player stats as well as tackles (solo and assisted) for those in IDP leagues. I'm linking over to the Team Defense portion since I think this is a really quick and easy spot to assess how each defense stacks up in terms of pass and rush D. Along the same lines, you can also check out Ultimate Fantasy Football Strategy's Best and Worst Defenses to Face After Week 8 . Note that this is all about fantasy points allowed versus the previous link which was straight up NFL stats. Mid-week fantasy musings

Big times in real life waiver world - in case you haven't heard the news yet, Randy Moss has landed with the Titans while Shawne Merriman was claimed by the Bills . Tough times in waiver land

I rode the subway today for the first time in nearly five weeks to get to and from an appointment. And I was all alone. Sans baby. It was like I forgot my wallet or only wore one shoe or something...a bizarro world for sure. I mean I even read a book. I know it sounds pretty minor but it was a flash back to my old life, friends. And in my old life I might have had more time to grab dudes off the waiver wire early enough to not get stuck with starting Kenneth Darby...which is how things went in Week 8 (and by a miracle I somehow still won in that league) so here's hoping you're not reaching super deep like I was last week. But if you are, well then you're in the right place since the following links basically mine the waiver options about as deep as one can go...it's nasty out there in waiver land this week. Best of luck to us all! Waiver wire ideas: Rotoworld's Waiver Wired: Stocking up acorns has you covered with waiver advice in the run up to fantasy playoffs.
