Oh readers, I'm rolling into the long weekend with a gigantic ol' cold. Hit me like a ton of bricks this morning when I woke up and I've just been sniffling and sneezing my way through the day, trying to get these links up but losing focus in between glasses of Emergen-C, tea, and OJ. So much liquid to consume, so little time. But this is a huge drafting weekend and I know you're all looking for that extra edge for draft day, so let's get right to it: With nearly all the preseason games in the books, it's a great time to take a look at some of the players who have been the talk of the fantasy town...but perhaps aren't worth it in Beware the Preseason Hype . I realized recently that I haven't done nearly enough promotion of my annual accuracy contest that I run in conjunction with the FSTA and a site called The Most Credible . As you all probably know by now, for several years I've been comparing experts' preseason positional rankings with end-of-the-season rankings, and I crown one site the most accurate for the season. The reigning champ are the Bruno Boys for preseason rankings and Draft Sharks for preseason projections. This contest is open to all in the fantasy football industry who publish positional rankings - all sites have to do is just submit their rankings to me as outlined in the contest link above, so encourage your favorite sites to participate! For the past several years I've been running a Monster FFLibrarian League with readers competing against each other in a 6-conference, 72-team league. I've had several questions about whether or not that will be happening again this year and yes, my monster league-lovers, it will. Later today I will send out an e-mail to all of last year's participants to see if you're interested in playing again. You will have until Friday night to let me know if you'd like to play again this year and on Saturday I will open the league up to any newcomers. As with last year, 1 of the 6 conferences will be done in e-mail style (the rest will be live online drafts), hopefully starting next Monday, August 15th. I will also be asking for 6 conference leaders again - if you played in the league last year and are willing to be a conference leader to help with the draft and any questions that come up during the season, please e-mail me ASAP. I've been lost in a world of unpacking (43 boxes) and replenishing (big trip to Walmart, an experience of superstore gigantic-ness that we hadn't had since prior to our move to NYC a few years ago...for better or for worse). My apologies for the slow posting this week - I'll be back on track soon, I hope. Starting next week I'll be gathering top 100 rankings from a variety of sites as I do every August ( here's 2010 for an example ), and will be putting together my 2011 Average Rankings Position Spreadsheet. I'll have one version up next week and another updated version available at the end of August. I've never been a great napper - there was a year in college when I embraced the nap lifestyle for a quarter but for the most part I'm more of a power-through-it kind of chick who can live on limited sleep when needed. But this baby thing, whole different ball game my friends. I realize I was told this by countless people (including many of you!) but there's no way to understand until you're experiencing it: the sleep deprivation is truly phenomenal and I'm learning how to take a nap in most any situation. I had family in town yesterday and between the family and the sleep loss, yesterday's post got lost in the shuffle. So one of the perks to our new apartment is the stunning view out the window - we look west from Brooklyn towards the Statue of Liberty and can see some pretty glorious sunsets. As we were unpacking our remaining moving boxes earlier tonight (only 4 more to go!), I just felt incredibly lucky to have found a place with such a stellar view, since it really wasn't something on our must-haves list when apartment searching. Just a bonus. Kind of like when you draft a running back who is a surprisingly adept receiver or a QB whose rushing TDs lead you to a win week in and week out. And really, that's at least one reason why we're all here, right? To see if we can get the edge on finding players with a sweet, unexpected bonus. My friends, mock draft season has arrived. Several of my favorite fantasy football sites are rolling out their first real mock drafts of the season and I'm loving it. Had an awesome day yesterday - basically hung out in my old library, catching up with friends and talking to coworkers about a few ongoing papers and projects. I've only been gone for about 7 weeks but it's amazing how many little things have changed since then. Ahh, the ever-changing world of libraries. This past week I asked you all to send me your guesses for the QB with the most passing yards for a chance to win a season-long sub to the excellent FFXtreme . Matt Leinart ended up hucking the ball for the most yards (360) but since none of us saw that coming, it was the #2 QB, Aaron Rodgers, who ended up bringing luck to Nick from Madison, WI. Rodgers threw for 258 and Nick had sent in his guess of 270 yards, making him the closest guess for the week. Nick will soon be cruising around the FFXtreme website , with all sorts of tips and tricks at his fingertips. Wouldn't you want that, too? Thought so. It's a deliciously cool morning here in New York City and I'm truly looking forward to autumn in the city...but first, a little football tonight! Good morning, fantasy footballers. Well I've bragged about him before and I'll brag about him again now: Eric Bruntlett of the Phillies , my sister's friend's husband (yes, I'm diverging from football for a brief moment except not entirely since I've chatted Eric up about fantasy football). Bruntlett's unassisted triple play yesterday to end the Phillies v Mets game was just the 15 th unassisted triple play in league history - I can only imagine how great he felt waking up this morning. Today is a wonderful day: one of my dearest friends is at the hospital, gearing up to give birth to an amazing baby boy or girl and I, for one, am thrilled.
