An early happy father's day to all you dads. I for one would be a muttering, frazzled fool without the love and help of my husband - and of course where would I be without my own amazing dad? Look at how he lights up my son's face. I'm indebted to my dad for years of compassion, generosity, and goofiness that I now see reflected in my own son. What a blessing. There's nothing quite like getting a call from your child's daycare while your child is supposedly safely ensconced in the safety of their care...which is precisely what happened to me yesterday morning. After our initial phone pleasantries, I paused, waiting for his teacher to tell me what horrible event had befallen our son. I think for a moment there my heart stopped and I wondered why she sounded so calm when she was clearly about to tell me that our son was hospitalized with a missing head or something equally tragic. But no, it was far more minor: he had caught a virus going around daycare and could I come pick him up. Not a huge deal but after a lengthy visit to the doctor (oh and have I mentioned that our new health insurance doesn't actually kick in for a few more days?) and a long day of missed naps and general grumpiness from all parties involved, I missed my chance to get a post up yesterday, my apologies. But hey, Monday is always a slow day on the fantasy anal...

As promised, I've been working on an updated average rankings spreadsheet - last night I gathered all of the updated rankings and today I'll be cleaning the names up and plunking it all into Stata, which is the program I use to help the analysis go much more quickly. I hope to have it all wrapped up and ready to be dispersed by tomorrow afternoon...assuming my son's nap schedule allows for a bit of work to be done! There is something alive in our fireplace. We've had a big moving box pressed up against the fireplace ever since we moved in a few weeks ago and discovered that one of our cats could easily jump up in the fireplace and half-disappear. So we've got the moving box all set up as a classy but effective baby and cat gate...and apparently a critter gate now, too, since there's been something fluttering or scratching around in there for a few hours. Being the uber girly girl that I am when it comes to bugs, vermin, or anything else that could appear in our fireplace, I have left whatever is in there to just stay there until my backup (my husband) comes home. Fingers crossed that the possible racket that's about to ensue as we unveil the fireplace critter won't wake our sleeping baby (nothing is more precious in our household than a sleeping baby...except maybe a critter-free fireplace). Monumental stuff here in the FFLibrarian household: our 10.5-month-old broke out his moves yesterday and started walking. Big time. For the past several years I've been running a Monster FFLibrarian League with readers competing against each other in a 6-conference, 72-team league. I've had several questions about whether or not that will be happening again this year and yes, my monster league-lovers, it will. Later today I will send out an e-mail to all of last year's participants to see if you're interested in playing again. You will have until Friday night to let me know if you'd like to play again this year and on Saturday I will open the league up to any newcomers. As with last year, 1 of the 6 conferences will be done in e-mail style (the rest will be live online drafts), hopefully starting next Monday, August 15th. With our departure date from NYC in less than a month, we're trying to spend a little time living it up like a classic NYC tourist. So tomorrow my husband and I are taking a vacation day and visiting the Statue of Liberty (which of course makes me think of this - sorry, Sooner fans). Many moons ago we bought tickets for access to the crown, which apparently has to be requested months in advance. Seems kind of fitting to join in the throngs of hot, chatty, and sometimes surly (oh wait, that's just me) tourists to visit our lady liberty just before the Fourth of July. Should be a good time and honestly, it's one of a very small number of times over the past 9 months that my husband and I have been out together without our little dude...so here's to a little alone time. Congrats to the good people of Boston on the Bruins' win last night. My sister is a Boston transplant and she has been there for about a year now, and I'm wondering if the game - or hockey season in general - was even on her radar. Granted, she's 8 months pregnant and probably not thinking about much else, but I'm definitely not seeing the standard New England enthusiasm from my northerner friends that I normally see for the Pats, Red Sox and even Celtics. The clouds and rain just won't stop here in NYC - it's been going on since Monday and frankly this is a great reminder of one reason why I loved living in Colorado so much. Has Boulder ever even seen 4 days in a row of rain? Unlikely. But the silver lining is that the fog and clouds make it a smidge darker in the morning, meaning our young tot sleeps in just a bit longer. I'll take that trade off. For now. It's official, friends, I'm moving to Knoxville, Tennessee. In addition to having a kickass department at UT for my husband to teach in, Knoxville is also my husband's hometown, meaning it's chock full of family members. What more could I want than to surround our son with loving family members? Plus, don't get me started on the incredible cost of living there as compared to NYC. While there are plenty of things that I'll miss about New York and just the urban lifestyle in general, I knew we were never here for the long haul and I'm looking forward to this next chapter. All week it has been one gray, soggy day after another here in NYC. No complaints really since it has kept the temperatures nice and cool (feels like fall is finally coming - and fall means football!), but the tides are finally turning and today is supposed to be a beaut. And I'll take it, especially since my mom and aunt are coming in for one final quick visit pre-baby, and showing off the city is done best when the weather is nice. I'm happily curled up on the couch watching the Broncos vs Bengals game, wondering just how Tim Tebow is going to look tonight. It was a long day at my real job today, my friends (yes, I do actually have a real librarian job for you newbies to the site), so the thought of all of the fantasy football drafts I've got coming up in a few weeks is certainly perking me up a bit tonight. I've been trying to limit the number of leagues I'm playing in this year without a ton of success and thought I'd mention a few of the more public leagues I'll be part of since they might be worth following as the season starts up. First up, as many of you know, I was the champion of the inaugural Buffalo Wild Wings Fantasy Football Blogger League and I won a trip to the Super Bowl - incredible.
