Tricks and Treats on the Waiver Wire

Happy Halloween. We're headed to a Halloween party tonight where costumes are mandated...what will I be? Is there really any question? A Broncos player. Anyway, I've already posted links to many waiver wire suggestions earlier this week (check out Monday's post and Tuesday's post ), but you know there's always room for more. Thought I'd throw in a few Week 9 rankings as well. So read on and enjoy Halloween! FanNation's Wire Tap is full of RB advice. Personally, I am desperate for TE advice. With my TE, Owen Daniels, in a day-to-day situation, I am strongly in need of a TE that miraculously has not been snatched up already by one of the genius football bloggers in my Blogger League. My team in that league is already doomed for a miserable season but I'm trying to save face here. Check out the harsh advice for Shiancoe in this article...I think I'm nearing the point of just needing a warm body to fill my TE slot. Or even Mike Vrabel. Just when I thou

Week 9's Waiver Thoughts

Good morning Football Fans. Though I suppose it's already nearing the afternoon for those of you on the eastern side of the nation. So let's not waste time talking about how my loss to my husband this week was solidified during last night's Broncos-Packers game. Let's get right to who you should pick up off the waiver wire this week....read on for expert opinions: FF Geek Blog's Waiver Wire Pickups, Keeper Sleepers, and Spot Starts: Week 9 has just what you're looking for, especially if you want to read up on all NFL players named Chris Henry. I admit, I was fooled by Kenton Keith's time sharing in previous weeks. NFL.com's Risers and Fallers: Addai, Davis headline risers rubs that in a bit. But they don't have Marques Colston and his 3 TDs anywhere on their list of risers - an oversight? Or do they think this past week was an aberration for Colston? Currently, Rotoworld appears to have a fantasy basketball article in place of their fantasy footbal

Monday Review and Prep for Week 9

I think there was an eerie silence over Denver last night as the 4th and final game of the WS ended last night with another Rockies loss. All I can say is, Monday Night Football, baby. The Packers are coming to town and I personally am really looking forward to tonight's game. I am playing my husband again this week ( I happily beat him for the first time a few weeks ago ) but things aren't looking very good for me - he has 86 to my 41 points. I do have Cutler, Driver, Scheffler, and IDP D.J. Williams in tonight's game to go so hopefully they will help me pull out a W over my husband. Again. But let's get to some Week 8 reviews and some early thoughts on the waiver wire: Even though these guys are New Englanders and they beat up thoroughly on both my hometown roots (Redskins) and my current roots (Rockies), they have yet another link-worthy blog post. Check out the FF Geek Blog's New England Domination . For your injury recap, read KFFL's Post-game injury report

Last Minute Decisions: Week 8

It's nearly time to make your final lineup decisions for Week 8 - so here are some sites to help make that process a little easier. KFFL's Sunday Morning Report - Week 8 was posted very early this morning and has the key injury info and news you need. Rotoworld's Last Minute Decisions or you could call in to Fantasy Fix at 11 eastern to ask their gurus your lineup questions. Bruno Boys have you covered with a podcast on Week 8's NFL Injuries and Weather . Dr. Stats' Last Minute Lineup Info with speculation that Matt Schaub and Jamal Lewis will start. And remember to keep an eye on sites like Rotoworld , KFFL , Sporting News or NFL for the latest news and injury updates.

IDP Forecast: Week 8

Time for a little IDP roundup here for Week 8. Let's check out the usual suspects and as always, if you have any new IDP sites you can recommend, send them my way. CBS Sports' Witness for the Defense: Week 8 - read up on how to trade your IDP all-stars for some highly skilled offensive players...and keep winning of course. Don't worry, there's also advice for your lineup this week. The DC native in me likes to see Redskins' Rocky McIntosh listed as a great sleeper this week. Fantasy Insider Online's Week 8 IDP Roundup FFToolbox's Week 8: IDP Sleepers - really enjoying the format change they've done here to focus on sleepers. FFToday's IDP Notes, Week 8 Fantasy Sharks ' The Hive is finally up - thanks to the reader who pointed me to the info about the belated posting of this article. Much appreciated.

Consensus start and sit picks for Week 8

As I mentioned yesterday , I wanted to try something new this week - a start/sit digest of sorts where I give you the most popular starts and sits across the board. I'm basing this off of the start and sit sites that I linked to yesterday as well as a few more that went up in the past 24 hours or so. So first, let's take a look at some of the new start or bench sites that have gone up since my post yesterday: CBS Sports' Week 8 Start 'em and Sit 'em NFL.com's Start 'em & Sit 'em: Week 8 The Fifth Down's F antasy Football Gems & Gimps Sport Projections' Start 'em Sit 'em - Week 8 And now the start/bench consensus picks from the experts for Week 8... QB Start: Brian Griese, McNabb and Bulger Sit: Jason Campbell, the Carolina QB, Kitna and Favre RB Start: Marshawn Lynch, Brandon Jacobs and LenDale White Sit: Kenny Watson/Rudi Johnson duo, Laurence Maroney and Ahman Green WR Start: Santonio Holmes, Kevin Curtis, Bernard Berrian, and L

Week 8: Start or Sit?

I love start and sit suggestions. Honestly, can't get enough of them. Which is why I compile basically as many as I can and link to them every week. I have a new feature that I'm going to roll out this week and hope you all will find it helpful. On Friday I will post a summary of all those start and sit sites with 2-3 players in each position that are the most popular start suggestions and the most popular bench suggestions. That way, if you're short on time, you can just check out my summary rather than click on each start/sit link. So once it's up tomorrow, if you find it valuable or helpful, let me know and I'll keep it going. But for now, let's get right to the start/sit links for today: FF Geek Blog's Studs and Duds: Week 8 - I'm trying to decide between starting Big Ben or Derek Anderson this week. Either one seems promising but the FF Geek Blog's words of wisdom are encouraging me to go with Ben Roethlisberger. Coach Box's Wheelock's

Mid-week Fantasy News & More Waivers

Welcome to Wednesday. Let's get caught up on some of the mid-week news in preparation for Week 8 of the 2007 NFL season: Many SD Chargers and their families (roughly 20 players and 30 coaches) have evacuated their homes due to the severe fires in southern Cal . The Qualcomm Stadium is being used as a shelter for evacuees, forcing contingency plans for the SD vs. Houston game this Sunday. The team flew to Arizona to practice there for the remainder of the week. Last night on the local Denver news, a newscaster reported that the number of people being evacuated due to these fires is basically the equivalent of everyone in Denver being evacuated - twice. So my thoughts are with all of you guys... Word on the street says "there is a good chance" that Frank Gore will be able to play this coming Sunday. I couldn't be more pleased to hear that good news. I can only assume that all you Joseph Addai owners noticed how many runs Kenton Keith got during the Monday night game. L

Waivers for Week 8

Week 8 of the NFL season is quickly approaching. There were a surprising number of injuries and injury scares this week...so while Ronnie Brown owners are envisioning an ugly 2nd half of the season, and my fellow Frank Gore owners are crossing their fingers that his ankle sprain is minor, Steven Jackson owners are getting psyched for his potential return to the field this week. For those of you dealing with injury mishaps (or suffering from Week 8 byes), let's take a look at some of the waiver wire suggestions that are already up: The FF Goat's Fantasy Football Waiver Wire and Sleepers Watch Week 8 - I basically think Tony Scheffler is the TE of the future and drafted him this year only to have to drop him a few weeks ago to cover injuries, etc. But the Goat sees Scheff as a potential bye week replacement against Green Bay if you need him this week...I couldn't agree more. NFL's Risers & Fallers: Barber, White headline risers has your upgrades and downgrades and h

Week 7 Review and Injuries

Well today is the day to buy World Series tickets here in Denver. I've got less than 15 minutes until ticket purchase time but I have very low expectations for being able to get through and buy them. Word on the street here is that the website/server the Rockies are using is just awful. These are the things that happen to teams that never win enough to ever get to the WS before...I'll keep you posted on whether or not I'll be attending a WS game in person. But back to football. Enough of this crazy baseball talk. For your injury updates on the past week, check out KFFL's Post-game Injury Report - Week 7 or just read Rotoworld's NFL Headlines section. There are enough big names listed with injuries to send a shiver down your spine. Brandon Jacobs may have re-injured his ankle? Gore might be out for Week 8? Travis Henry left with bruised ribs? Bulger played miserably? Oh wait, that's no surprise considering the state of the Rams these days. Anyway, read up. I pe

Final Decisions for Week 7

Time to make those final lineup decisions before tomorrow's games. If you have anyone who is injured and on the fence about starting, I highly recommend checking an injury report tomorrow morning. One of my favorites for updated info and news is Rotoworld . Rotoworld also has a Last Minute Decisions article if you'd like some info on which players are already out and which you need to keep an eye on tomorrow before game time. A few other sites to check include SI's Fan Nation's Last Minute Med Check , Dr. Stats Week 7 Game-Time Decisions , or try Bruno Boys' Week 7 Podcast: NFL Injuries and Weather . And of course if you're looking for start and sit suggestions, check out my posts from Thursday and Friday of this week.

IDP Forecast: Week 7 & more Start 'em Sit 'em sites

Greetings, IDP fans. That would be individual defensive players for those who are new to the world of non-team D/STs in fantasy leagues. Let's jump right in and take a look at some potential IDP all-stars for Week 7. A new IDP site - excellent! I found this thanks to Yardbarker and am quite pleased with what I see here. So check out Fantasy Insider Online's Week 7 IDP Roundup . Fantasy Sharks' The Hive - Week 7 edition - I'm holding out hope that Osi will have an awesome week against Trent Dilfer. Osi's two tackles last week just didn't really do it for me. CBS Sports' Witness for the Defense - Week 7 Okay, I'm not going to take credit for this or anything since it's a wide, wide www out there, but perhaps my commentary over the past few weeks on how unhelpful it was to just have IDP superstars in FF Toolbox's IDP article made an impact. FF Toolbox has switched their IDP format and are now doing IDP Sleepers - that's what I'm talking a

Javon Walker Out for Several Weeks

Oh Javon Walker. You shave your mohawk and next thing we know, you need knee surgery . Are the two things related or what? It's like Samson losing his hair and losing his power...Javon=Samson. Okay, so I'm not a biblical scholar but you get my point. Check out Mason's Morsels for info on Walker's situation - his surgery will be a cleanout that could keep him off the field for a few weeks. Shanahan said "the doctors don't think it's very serious" and I'm wondering if those doctors simply don't have Javon Walker on their fantasy teams. In all seriousness though, I just want him healthy and playing like the superstar I know he is. All Broncos' owners should be paying attention to this development. I think this increases the value of Brandon Marshall and my favorite TE, Tony Scheffler, among other Broncos receivers. Though it certainly makes Jay Cutler a little less appealing and makes you think about how much focus there might be on the run o

Start and Sit Dilemmas - Week 7

Really, I know I should be grateful that only 4 teams are on bye this week but it just leaves me with more players on my roster to choose between this week. That means intelligent decisions have to be made here (er, maybe just well analyzed decisions) and therefore what more could I want than a bunch of start and bench sites from all the experts out there? But before I get to those, how about Leftwich starting for the Falcons this week? And what's up with Rudi supposedly getting more carries and yet still sitting out of practice so far this week? And should you drop Sammy Morris now that he might be missing up to a month? The Goat - really, I make few decisions without consulting the Goat's blog for advice. That is of course why he's the Greatest Of All Time. So read up on Your Fantasy Football Start 'em Sit 'em and Sleepers for Week 7 . This blog is relatively new to me, but I'm liking it so far. Waiver Suggestions for Week 7

There's much to think about in the world of fantasy football....with Chris Chambers being traded to the Chargers, reports of 2 more Patriots being sidelined this weekend (Morris, Watson), Priest Holmes practicing again and Michael Bennett arriving in TB, there has been some activity worth reading up on this week. Check out my post from Tuesday or read on for more free agent/waiver wire ideas... Start your waiver research with CBS Sports' Playing the Waiver Wire: Hunting for a QB? Another good one is FFToday's Through the Wire - these guys give you a deep analysis of which free agents you might want to pick up. Always helpful for those of us playing in a league with a bunch of FF experts...Blogger league, I'm talking about you. NFLFreaks' Hot Waiver Wire Picks - Week 7 I'll admit it, I picked up Michael Bennett in a league where my RB performance is sub-par. I am hoping that Bennett will somehow become a force to be reckoned with even though Sporting News'

Waiver Thoughts & Broncos News

First, I'd like to start off with some updates on Broncos players - sorry for the hometown bias, but it's valuable for all to know that Javon Walker is back on the practice field , baby. If you have Javon on your team as I do, take note that while he doesn't feel his knee will actually be healthy until the off-season, Walker claims it's go-time and he's ready to play through it. Hmm. In other Broncos news, the latest I've heard on Travis Henry is as follows from the Denver Post : " The one issue to pay attention to is running back Travis Henry. A final determination on his drug test is not expected to be made until mid-November, but the NFL wanted it resolved yesterday. If Henry is suspended, as most expect, than the Broncos will likely finish the season with a tailback rotation of Selvin Young and Andre Hall." Andre Hall, you say. In fact, some suggest that Hall would take Henry's place and Selvin Young would maintain his current roll. So keep tha

Monday Review

Oh what a big numbers weekend for me...in one league I gleefully watched my stats skyrocket as Adrian Peterson kept running up the TDs and yardage (at this point I'd like to point out that I got AP in the 8th round of this draft. Yes, seriously!). Sadly some of my other players in that league put up rather unremarkable numbers (Sammy Morris, how's the chest? And Vincent Jackson, what's up buddy?) so I'm only up by 5 points with my opponent still to play Plaxico tonight. If I win, I'm numero uno in that league. So depending on that matchup's outcome, I'll either go 2-2 or 3-1 this weekend. Decent, but there's always room for improvement. So let's get to a quick review of the weekend and perhaps some early waiver thoughts: Wondering who put up massive numbers this week? Which RBs had season-high yardage? Check out the Fantasy Football Geek Blog's Holy TOUCHDOWNS, Batman! Want a quick review of the injuries from this weekend and how that might affec

Last Minute Decisions: Week 6

It's last minute decisions time, baby. I'm waiting for reports on Rudi Johnson, Brian Westbrook and Jamal Lewis before making final lineup decisions this week, and I'm guessing a lot of you out there are in a similar boat. So before the witching hour tomorrow, try SI's Fan Nation's Sunday Morning Med Check . I'll update the link when it goes live, but for now, here's the main Fan Nation link . Other places to go for last minute info: Rotoworld's Last Minute Decisions article gives injury updates as well as advice on which matchups to avoid and exploit. Good stuff. Check out The Fifth Down's Personnel File: Jaguar Running Back is Poised to Pounce for thoughts on a handful of games...and some reassurance for those of us who are starting MJD. Did I finally beat my husband in fantasy football?

I just realized that several of you had asked earlier in the week if I had finally triumphed against my husband last weekend and I hadn't responded yet with a YES! For three long years I played against him often several times a season and could never beat him. So last weekend we played against each other in two different fantasy leagues and I beat him in one of them but not the other. So it wasn't quite the complete domination I was hoping for but it was a sweet, sweet victory. Unfortunately it was hard to lord it over him while he lay around vomiting and recovering from heat stroke from the marathon - it's a fierce competitor who is willing to make a puking spouse feel worse. We are in three leagues together so we play again in Week 8, and then again much later in the season. I'm considering getting a trophy to give to whichever one of us has the winning record...

IDP Forecast: Week 6...plus new Start/Sit sites

It has been a rather long week for me so I am embracing Friday with a lot of excitement - and planning on dedicating a good chunk of time to fantasy football preparations. So let the links begin! IDP Forecast: Week 6 - read on for the usual suspects. If anyone has a free IDP link that I am missing, let me know. There aren't nearly as many IDP sites and I am always looking for more. Fantasy Sharks' The Hive: Week 6 - good stuff as always here and with the extreme number of byes this week, take a look at this list if you need ideas on who to pick up this week. FFToday's IDP Notes: Week 6 CBS Sports' Witness for the Defense: Week 6 - lists a sleeper pick at each IDP position FFToolbox's Week 6: IDP Starters - as always I find myself wishing they formatted this a little differently since this list is really just about IDP studs, many of whom weren't available the day after the draft. But it's interesting reading nonetheless. Beyond IDPs, I have more fantasy

Start and Bench Suggestions: Week 6

Welcome to Week 6, friends. Also known as An Egregious Amount of Byes Week. Hopefully you all are still in the fantasy game even though many of the first round RBs have not exactly performed as expected. Not sure that back in August I would've believed that Laurence Maroney, Maurice Jones-Drew and Marques Colston would be riding my bench week in and week out. Here's hoping for a solid Week 6 from our so-called studs. Fantasy Football Goat's Fantasy Football Start 'em Sit 'em and Sleepers for Week 6 - the Goat always does a nice job of unearthing some gems...and of shooting down Cedric Benson. Goat, I'm preparing myself for a massive, season-long "I told you so" from you - but my only other option instead of Benson is Julius Jones against NE. Is that really any better? We'll see, perhaps I'll sleep on it. DR U Fantasy Football GURU's NFL Start em Bench em - Week 6 outlook actually recommends starting Derek Anderson. Now that I am a er, pro

Waiver Updates for Week 6

Week 6 is right around the corner and there are still so many bye spots to fill. Take a look at my post from Tuesday for some thoughts on who you might want to pick up or read on for a few more thoughts. Rotoworld's Waiver Wired's Top 24 Backup Running Backs Mr. Fantasy's Week 6 Position Rankings: RBs , QBs , WRs , TEs , Ks , D/STs The recently updated Sleepers & Creepers from Junkyard Jake's Fantasy Football Network FFToday's Through the Wire: Week 6 - in a state of desperation I picked up Derek Anderson for my bye fill-in; my only other option was Marc Bulger, clearly not an option. Let's hope Derek Anderson proves worthy of the bye week slot... Who doesn't love a little player performance projections? That's what I thought, so check out NFLFreaks.com's Player Performance Projections for Week 6 . Week 6 Waiver Thoughts

What a weekend - I got back last night after watching my husband run the Chicago Marathon and it was quite an experience. Fortunately he finished (though an hour later than planned) but he battled some minor heat stroke issues - it was 88 and 87% humidity during the race. Not exactly the weather we're used to in Colorado! But I'm back now and not planning on being out of town again until the end of December. Expect lots of posts and I'll have more time online this week to chat and answer any questions you have. So let's dive right in and take a look at Week 6 waiver wire suggestions: The Fantasy Football Geek Blog's Waiver Wire Pickups, Keeper Sleepers, and Spot Starts: Week 6 - I like how these guys are thinking ahead with the TB RB situation and suggesting a possible pickup of Mewelde Moore. Some of my favorite waiver articles come from the Bruno Boys Work the Wire, the Waiver Wire and the Fantasy Football Goat's Fantasy Football Waiver Wire and Sleepers Wat

IDP Forecast: Week 5

I know many of you can't stop thinking about the implications of league-leading RB Travis Henry possibly being suspended for a year (it has been an interesting news year for Henry ) - or perhaps it's just being in Broncos Country. But I'm going to switch gears a bit and get my weekly IDP info up for all you IDP owners. Read on for advice on which individual defenders to start in Week 5: CBS Sports' Witness for the Defense: Week 5 - he rightly questions where on earth Julius Peppers has been all season... Fantasy Sharks' The Hive - Week 5 edition - there's also a 1st quarter of the season special edition of The Hive so check that out as well. FFToday's IDP Notes: Week 5 - two nice features here included an updated injury report (as of Friday afternoon) and an IDP depth chart. FFToolbox's Week 5: IDP Starters - glad to see a little love for fellow Northwestern alum Napoleon Harris but they really need to start listing some new players.

Selvin Young

Get Selvin Young now. Sorry for the brevity of this post last night, I just wanted to get that info out there ASAP. The timing is unclear, but Travis Henry is looking at serving a one-year suspension for violating the substance abuse policy - and being a repeat offender. Henry is the league leader in rushes so far this season (443 yards) so this is really huge fantasy news. Note that Henry very may well play this weekend; if you have been lucky enough to acquire Selvin Young, keep an eye on the situation before starting him. For more info, check out Gregg Rosenthal's blog post about it.

Start and Sit Sites for Week 5

Greetings, FFers. Looking for more Start and Sit sites for Week 5 of the season? Look no further: DR U Fantasy Football GURU's NFL Start 'em Bench 'em - Week 5 - with a bye week's worth of rest now, will MJD finally produce some big numbers this week? Fantasy Sharks' Start/Bench List - Week 5 is all for starting Jay Cutler and as a Broncos fan, I can get behind that logic... The Fantasy Football Geek Blog's Five potential fantasy shockers this week - yes, that's Gus Frerotte's name you see - and Proceed with caution: weak plays for week 5 FanProphet's "The Gospel" Week 5 Quarterbacks - he usually gets up the RBs and WRs before game time, too, so check them out later in the week. CBS Sports now has their Start 'em/Sit 'em list up. The Hazean's Start & Sit: Week 5 - finally, someone who thinks I should be Randle El in my starting lineup. On more of a NFL note than a fantasy note per se, check on the NYT's blog on the

Holy Waiver Wire, Batman!

Ah the start and sit suggestions are starting to crank out for Week 5, my fantasy football fiends. Read on for some of the start and sit links - I've also added a whole lot of waiver wire suggestions, too, since it's never too late to be checking on those. I have a really big week ahead - I play my husband in two different leagues. In four years, I have never, ever beaten him. I came really close last year but then his IDP London Fletcher-Baker had an unheard of massive 20+ points in a game or something equally ridiculous. Beating Scott has become my white whale. So wish me luck. Speaking of people who have beaten me in FF, check out the Goat's Fantasy Football Waiver Wire and Sleepers Watch Week 5 article. Mr. Fantasy has his week 5 rankings up - RBs , QBs , WRs , TEs , Ks , and D/STs Check out TJI's Free Agent Frenzy - I think my favorite part about this is the "wait one more week" section that lists players you might be anxious to grab but really ought to

Week 5 Preparations Begin!

First and foremost, go Rockies. Sorry, Padres fans but the entire state of Colorado is jubilant about this turn of events. And the end of the game last night was fantastic. I've finally returned from a long weekend in West Virginia for a good friend's wedding. I was barely on e-mail or checking my teams all weekend and interestingly enough, I had one of my more successful FF weekends. But with injuries and some interesting things occurring this weekend (like Cleveland winning) I think it's time to refocus and get back to football. Need some wavier wire suggestions? Ideas on who to start and sit? New info on injuries? Take a look at some of these sites: Bruno Boys' Work the Wire, the Waiver Wire - Week 5 ; the injuries and bye weeks continue so read on for their advice on who to pick up in Week 5.
