2011 Results: Accuracy in Preseason Rankings

I've been remiss in getting this post up, my apologies. I've been busy with the usual: toddler, work, and more toddler. And of course there's the gray cloud of Just-One-More-Game-Left-This-Season hanging over my head...congrats, Pats and Giants fans. We had our son decked out in a tiny Welker jersey that my Patriots-loving sister sent our way so I guess I'm pulling for the Patriots. Mostly though I'm just hoping for an entertaining game.

Last week I posted the results to the 2011 preseason rankings accuracy contest that I run each year - take a look at the write up on The Fifth Down: Fantasy Football Accuracy Rankings for 2011. There were 46 sites that participated this year and I have them all list below in alphabetical order:

The winner across all 4 positions looked at (QB, RB, WR and TE) was John Paulsen at The Fantasy Shrink. You can also find John on Twitter - @4for4_John. The top site at each position is as follows:

QB:
Fantasy Football Maniaxs

RB:
CBSSports.com (Jamey Eisenberg's rankings)

WR:
ESPN

TE:
The Fantasy Shrink

You can find the top 15 sites overall and top 10 at each position on the Fifth Down article. I'll be adding this year's results together with other past results to build upon the aggregate results spreadsheet I started a few years - and that is one chock full document, my friends. Definitely something you'll want to get your hands on before Draft Day 2012. I'm exploring new options of how to deliver this info to you all since I know many of you are very curious about which expert has the best advice, so stay tuned on that front.

On a similar note, if you haven't seen the FantasyPros.com results for their own accuracy competition, I highly recommend swinging by Fantasy Football Expert Accuracy Scores. FantasyPros.com takes a look at weekly start/sit recommendations rather than preseason rankings and if you combine these two assessments, I think you have a ton of advice in terms of the experts you'll want to focus on in the future. Good stuff.

Hi Sara,

How come Rotoexperts didn't submit? Don't you write for them now and again? I would have thought they'd be one of the stronger sites.

Love your in-season blogs. Great info and great job,in spite of being a new mom.
A question on your accuracy rankings - you show Draft Sharks as #5 overall, but they only appear once at #10 for RBs and not in the top ten for the other positions. Am I missing something?

Labor Day FF links

Happy long weekend! Here's hoping most of you are free to enjoy the 3-day weekend and the relaxation and fun that comes with it. I spent my Sunday participating in 3 fantasy football drafts scattered throughout the day and night, but I think I've finally wrapped up my drafts for the year. So like many of you I'm now turning my attention to the Week 1 games! But before we get to some player rankings and prep for Week 1, I want to make sure that all you experts out there are aware of the upcoming deadline for the annual accuracy contest that I run with the Fantasy Sports Trade Association. I compare preseason positional rankings from experts to the final outcome of the fantasy season to see which site had the most accurate preseason rankings, and this year's deadline is fast approaching: September 9th by kickoff. Check out the info on the FSTA site for more details and be sure to e-mail me your submissions. Now, onto Week 1! First up, let's get to some of this

Streaming Defenses - Week 16

Don't know about you all, but in our house this week is just chock full of events, visiting with family, and getting organized for our upcoming time off over the holidays. Lots of scrambling going on around here and attempts to install some sense of gratitude in my boys. What am I grateful for this season? Many things but let's start with Bob. Bob has been my fantasy football rock, coming back week after week to post. Hats off to you, Bob, and thank you for your diligent work and research. So here he is with this year's final streaming defense post.  Well it’s the last week of the Fantasy Football Playoffs in most leagues, and my last post of the season. I hope you all found these posts useful. And if I failed you, you have to murder a lot more experts before you get to me. I myself have had a terrible playoff season. I’m out of all but one of my leagues due to the weird games the last two weeks. Between weather that didn’t materialize to normally consistent players co
