The FA News Keeps Rolling In...

I love how completely different all the Randy Moss news is - ESPN is reporting that maybe Moss and Culpepper would like to reunite and take their free agent selves to the same team in 2008; while the NFL Network is reporting that Moss and the Pats are very close to reaching negotiations. Love it.

Another big piece of news - Michael Turner signed with the Falcons (and Warrick Dunn was released). Now who will the Falcons draft with their number 3 overall pick come April? Not to overstate the obvious, but adding The Burner to the Falcons definitely moves Norwood down a few notches in terms of fantasy value.

Frankly, if I'm the Dolphins, I'm hardly eager to make Ricky Williams the primary backup considering it took all of 6 plays before he was injured last November.

With Favre's big news today, I'd add Aaron Rogers to your watch list. He was a phenom to watch at Cal and I look forward to seeing him step up into some big empty shoes.

Labor Day FF links

Happy long weekend! Here's hoping most of you are free to enjoy the 3-day weekend and the relaxation and fun that comes with it. I spent my Sunday participating in 3 fantasy football drafts scattered throughout the day and night, but I think I've finally wrapped up my drafts for the year. So like many of you I'm now turning my attention to the Week 1 games! But before we get to some player rankings and prep for Week 1, I want to make sure that all you experts out there are aware of the upcoming deadline for the annual accuracy contest that I run with the Fantasy Sports Trade Association. I compare preseason positional rankings from experts to the final outcome of the fantasy season to see which site had the most accurate preseason rankings, and this year's deadline is fast approaching: September 9th by kickoff. 2014 Average Position Rankings spreadsheet

Friends, I've got a first draft of the 2014 Average Position Rankings spreadsheet up here as a google doc. If you're new to this annual spreadsheet or need a refresher, here's the scoop. I take the top 200 or so overall rankings that are freely offered by a handful of sites and I average out their rankings for each player. I also take the standard deviation to see how a player's rankings differ among experts, and add that in as another component to give you a sense of how much consensus there is on a player. I drew from the following sites this year: FFToolbox, CBSSports.com (both Jamey and Dave), ESPN, FFCalc's ADP, The Fake Football, The Football Girl, NFL.com, DavidGonos.com, SI, Yahoo, FantasyPros.com, and RealTime Fantasy Sports. All offered roughly a top 200 overall ranking and you can see each site's ranking (gathered 8/20/14) in the second tab on the spreadsheet.
