Can't Get Enough of Fantasy Sports

Apparently a day full of fantasy sports is not enough for me - I have to round off the day with a blog post. I spent today at the Fantasy Sports Trade Association conference representing both myself and Sports Data Hub, and my brain is already brimming with all sorts of fantasy sports info. Tomorrow's schedule is even busier and I feel a little giddy over being able to spend an entire second day thinking/talking/breathing fantasy sports.

Soon my life will return to normalcy but until then, a few quick links:
  • Rotoworld's Only for the Addicts summary of the first experts mock draft of the year - full of all sorts of commentary.
  • Over the course of the 2007 season, I e-mailed with several of you about the benefits of an IDP league (individual defensive players) rather than a D/ST. Thanks for the plug nice lady! I love IDP! It adds so much more to the game. The series I'm doing on Fantasy Dynasty 101 is based on an IDP league we have had going for a few years. It' my favorite league.

Update:  It is with a very heavy heart that I tell you all that yesterday, August 30th, I delivered our stillborn daughter, Caroline Mary. Labor Day FF links

Happy long weekend! Here's hoping most of you are free to enjoy the 3-day weekend and the relaxation and fun that comes with it. I spent my Sunday participating in 3 fantasy football drafts scattered throughout the day and night, but I think I've finally wrapped up my drafts for the year. So like many of you I'm now turning my attention to the Week 1 games! But before we get to some player rankings and prep for Week 1, I want to make sure that all you experts out there are aware of the upcoming deadline for the annual accuracy contest that I run with the Fantasy Sports Trade Association. I compare preseason positional rankings from experts to the final outcome of the fantasy season to see which site had the most accurate preseason rankings, and this year's deadline is fast approaching: September 9th by kickoff. 2014 Average Position Rankings spreadsheet

Friends, I've got a first draft of the 2014 Average Position Rankings spreadsheet up here as a google doc. If you're new to this annual spreadsheet or need a refresher, here's the scoop. I take the top 200 or so overall rankings that are freely offered by a handful of sites and I average out their rankings for each player. I also take the standard deviation to see how a player's rankings differ among experts, and add that in as another component to give you a sense of how much consensus there is on a player. I drew from the following sites this year: FFToolbox, CBSSports.com (both Jamey and Dave), ESPN, FFCalc's ADP, The Fake Football, The Football Girl, NFL.com, DavidGonos.com, SI, Yahoo, FantasyPros.com, and RealTime Fantasy Sports. All offered roughly a top 200 overall ranking and you can see each site's ranking (gathered 8/20/14) in the second tab on the spreadsheet.
