Streaming Defenses - Week 2

More Bob, please. He nailed the Vikings call last weekend, so read on to see who he suggests for Week 2.

Welcome back fellow streamers. Hope you were able to pickup MIN last week. What a nice stream eh? In fact, if you streamed one of the five I recommended last week you did better than 3 of the top 6 drafted Defs. For those of you wondering where I’m getting my data, I’m taking the data from MyFantasyLeague.com, and using the scoring from the Fantasy Sharks leagues. It’s a basic system but adds points for points or yards allowed. If you want to see the actual breakdown go here.

Here’s the breakdown of Week 1 results.

Just another week where Streaming Defenses can beat even the highest rated Defenses.

What are other things we learned this week:

  • Titans are a valid target. Mariota looked terrible and their Offensive Line couldn’t keep him protected.

  • Browns are a valid target. And now their great hope at QB is out for maybe 2 months, what a shock!

  • 49ers aren’t the target we thought, and the Rams aren’t as good as many others thought.

  • The Chiefs’ Defense isn’t what they were last year without Houston and Mauga.

  • Vikings, 49ers, Packers, Ravens, and Jets defenses looked good although the Vikings played a prime target.
  • First time QBs did pretty well: Trevor Siemian, Dak Prescott, Carson Wentz so targeting them may be folly. The Tyrod Taylor bandwagon may have lost a wheel and the Bills may have just emerged as a new target, they did not look good. Substitute QBs such as Case Keenum and Shaun Hill aren’t good and could be targets if the teams don’t go to their prized acquisitions.

  •  IND and NO can’t protect their QBs and their defenses are unstartable, even with good matchups. They can be targets against better defenses, but DET and OAK didn’t take advantage.

So what do we have this week? First of all, we resort back to our widely-owned teams for analysis, where a team owned over 80% is considered widely owned, and don’t qualify as a streaming defense. This week we have 9 widely owned teams.

I like HOU this week against KC. The Texans did really well against the Bears and I expect about the same this week at home against KC.

Nope, I don't like the KC defense this week, and not until some injured Def players return, this is a trap

Rams have floated down to mediocre after watching them give a meager team big yards on the ground.

NE showed great heart against ARI, a high powered offense. Maybe there's more to NE than what meets the eye. This is a start but temper expectations.

This is a tossup, after the Jags gave them a run for their money, but the Vikings are a better defense. Start but temper expectations.

The Bills look to be a big target and the Jets had the most sacks last week. Start them as a #1 stream while you can get them.

Only owned in 8% leagues, held Bills to one touchdown and now meet the number one target. #2 best stream this week.

NO is now a target in spite of their scoring prowess, the Giants have improved a lot as evidenced by holding Zeke to low numbers. #3 start
GB

The GB offense didn't look stellar against the Jags, but their defense was good. Now they go against a bad QB in either case. #4 start of the week

I don’t expect the streams to outperform the top 5 widely owned Defs because the top five all have great matchups and 4 of them play at home. But my 4 top streams will outperform the rest of the widely owned, except possibly MIN.

There you have it. Make a waiver and make a difference.

Labor Day FF links

Happy long weekend! Here's hoping most of you are free to enjoy the 3-day weekend and the relaxation and fun that comes with it. I spent my Sunday participating in 3 fantasy football drafts scattered throughout the day and night, but I think I've finally wrapped up my drafts for the year. So like many of you I'm now turning my attention to the Week 1 games! But before we get to some player rankings and prep for Week 1, I want to make sure that all you experts out there are aware of the upcoming deadline for the annual accuracy contest that I run with the Fantasy Sports Trade Association. I compare preseason positional rankings from experts to the final outcome of the fantasy season to see which site had the most accurate preseason rankings, and this year's deadline is fast approaching: September 9th by kickoff. Check out the info on the FSTA site for more details and be sure to e-mail me your submissions. Now, onto Week 1! First up, let's get to some of this

2010 Week 2 consensus start/sit

Greetings and happy weekend. I've got this week's consensus start/sit for you which is a tally of all the start/sit votes that players received in the various start/sit articles that I linked to earlier in the week. So while these aren't my personal recommendations, I do think knowing what the consensus is could be of help when making lineup decisions...so enjoy! Note: the players are listed in no particular order. QB Start: Michael Vick, Kyle Orton, Matt Ryan, Jason Campbell Sit: David Garrard, Alex Smith, Jay Cutler, Vince Young, Carson Palmer RB Start: LeSean McCoy, Darren McFadden, Ahmad Bradshaw, Brandon Jackson Sit: Tim Hightower, C.J. Spiller, Beanie Wells, Ronnie Brown WR Start: Santana Moss, Legedu Naanee, Malcolm Floyd, Mike Williams (TB), Dez Bryant Sit: Randy Moss, Michael Crabtree TE Start: Chris Cooley, Todd Heap, John Carlson, Jermichael Finley Sit: Jermaine Gresham, Owen Daniels, Tony Scheffler, Jeremy Shockey, Bo Scaife Kicker Start: La

Start/Sit Week 4 and a smattering of rankings

It's been awhile, my fantasy football friends. I have lofty intentions of getting several posts up here each week, but life is busy and I will do my best. So in the intervening 6 years since I've posted regularly on here, our family added another child (now there are 3!), moved back to Boulder for a sabbatical year and then returned to Knoxville, and we have basically been chugging along like many of the rest of you. My two boys (who turn 12 and 9 soon) are in a fantasy football league for the first time this year with their buddies, which ostensibly is the just the dads (and mom!) playing one another of course. But my oldest is taking it super seriously and what kind of Fantasy Football Librarian would I be if I didn't step up my game for him? So I'm back - and am interested in the fantasy landscape - lots of the same awesome sites out there, but many new ones as well. I'll try to incorporate a mix. Please be sure to let me know if my 2006 ways aren't working i
