Football is back! If you're like me, the sweet sounds of the NFL during last night's Hall of Fame Game put a little extra smile on your face since we all know the real season is now so close we can practically taste it. Love it. It's visiting season here in Brooklyn: friends of ours from our Boulder, CO days swung through NYC during an east coast road trip so we've spent the past few nights happy houring it up with them, and now I've got a good friend from college in town this weekend. It's great to have friends around, gotta love being surrounded by such fun company. As many of you know, last year I started the FFLibrarian monster league hosted by MyFantasyLeague.com and had 96 readers participate in one huge league (divided into 6 conferences of 16 teams) - last year's winner was Andrew, manager of the American Atheists squad. MFL.com has generously offered to host us again but this year the size of the league is going to be limited to 72 teams to make things a bit more reasonable and fun for participants; we'll still have 6 conferences, but each conference will only have 12 teams. I've sent an e-mail out to all of last year's participants to make sure they had an opportunity to reply and play again this year, and I still have about 15 spots left in the league. Well I'm back from a long weekend of seeing family and friends - it was a fantastic weekend, full of celebrations (wedding, baby shower, family birthday) and ended with a bumpy UHaul ride and a newly furnished nursery of sorts (and by nursery I mean a 3x6 space carved out of our living room). So thanks for your patience while I was traveling and welcome to August - very exciting time for fantasy footballers. Tomorrow morning I hop on the train and head down to my hometown just outside of DC for a long weekend with the family. It should be full of festivities - a friend from high school is getting married and a baby shower is being thrown for me. Good times and likely the last time I'll travel for awhile. So good thing I'm doing it right by bringing a UHaul full of baby stuff back up next week. And by "doing it right" I'm hopefully implying a great deal of sarcasm since a UHaul is hardly a fun way to travel when unknocked up, much less 7 weeks away from giving birth to a tiny person. But hey, that truck will be full of generous gifts and family hand-me-downs so honestly, no complaints. Should be an entertaining experience. But it also means I'll probably be a bit quiet for the next several days while I'm on the road...so enjoy today's links! My dad has gone completely bananas and has dedicated an extensive amount of time and energy over the past several day to researching our various family lineages online. I've got all sorts of fascinating characters in my family history - politicians, vaudeville actors, Amish, town founders, poets - and I didn't anticipate finding any of it as interesting as I do. But perhaps I should have been more prepared for that since as all fantasy football buffs know, a look back in time can really be quite informative.
