Advice for lucky number 7

Both a good friend from college and my sister are coming over to our place tonight for a little face time with our kiddo, which will be the icing on a pretty solid day. I've got several Week 7 prep links for you tonight - check out the additional waiver wire links as well as rankings and prep tools. Enjoy!
  • Waiver wire suggestions:
    • Talented Mr. Roto's Free Agent Madden-ness! (yes, Matthew Berry and other ESPNers really are in Madden '11)
    • Rotoworld's Waiver Wired: The Danario Scenario (includes a ranking of waiver wire options, which I find particularly helpful)
    • ProFootballFocus.com's Waiver Wire - what do you guys think, while James Starks be the next big thing in Green Bay or is it going to evolve into a classic handcuff situation there between Jackson, Kuhn and Starks? 
    • FFToday.com's Through the Wire (I should be linking to FFToday more often - great site)
    • I've been using IDP Guru's Waiver Wire Pickup advice for the past few weeks now and have yet to be disappointed; good stuff if you're in need of a new individual defender.
  • Razzball.com's It's Toraining TDs has a bunch of tidbits from last weekend's games that you'll want to know about while preparing for Week 7. 
  • Awhile ago I linked to some tools that CBSSports.com is providing this year and thought I'd send you back to their Interactive Running Back Selector tool, which gives you projected fantasy points (including rushes and receptions) for RBs in a manner that allows for easy comparison between players.

A hiatus

Update:  It is with a very heavy heart that I tell you all that yesterday, August 30th, I delivered our stillborn daughter, Caroline Mary. This has been an almost surreal and definitely heartbreaking experience and I appreciate the support in each and every one of your notes. Caroline will be honored and loved always. Labor Day FF links

Happy long weekend! Here's hoping most of you are free to enjoy the 3-day weekend and the relaxation and fun that comes with it. I spent my Sunday participating in 3 fantasy football drafts scattered throughout the day and night, but I think I've finally wrapped up my drafts for the year. So like many of you I'm now turning my attention to the Week 1 games! But before we get to some player rankings and prep for Week 1, I want to make sure that all you experts out there are aware of the upcoming deadline for the annual accuracy contest that I run with the Fantasy Sports Trade Association. I compare preseason positional rankings from experts to the final outcome of the fantasy season to see which site had the most accurate preseason rankings, and this year's deadline is fast approaching: September 9th by kickoff. 2014 Average Position Rankings spreadsheet

Friends, I've got a first draft of the 2014 Average Position Rankings spreadsheet up here as a google doc. If you're new to this annual spreadsheet or need a refresher, here's the scoop. I take the top 200 or so overall rankings that are freely offered by a handful of sites and I average out their rankings for each player. I also take the standard deviation to see how a player's rankings differ among experts, and add that in as another component to give you a sense of how much consensus there is on a player. I drew from the following sites this year: FFToolbox, CBSSports.com (both Jamey and Dave), ESPN, FFCalc's ADP, The Fake Football, The Football Girl, NFL.com, DavidGonos.com, SI, Yahoo, FantasyPros.com, and RealTime Fantasy Sports. All offered roughly a top 200 overall ranking and you can see each site's ranking (gathered 8/20/14) in the second tab on the spreadsheet.
