Week 11 Prep

After tonight's game, we can officially say goodbye to the bye weeks - I for one am quite pleased to have a full arsenal of fantasy weapons ready for the next several weeks. However, the injury reports never seem to end (I'm sure every AP owner nearly had a heart attack yesterday)...check out either Rotoworld's NFL Headlines or KFFL's Hot Off the Wire for the latest news on injuries and/or lineup changes (Brodie Croyle here to stay?). And speaking of updates, looks like Shaun Alexander is out for tonight's match-up. I'm interested in how much action Leonard Weaver sees or if this will mostly be a Maurice Morris kind of night.

So even though the bye weeks are ending, I know many of you out there are still looking for new players to add to your lineups to ensure a piece of the playoffs pie. Never fear - check out the following links:
  • FF Goat's Fantasy Football Wavier Wire and Sleeper Watch Week 11 is full of suggestions, including mystery man James Thrash with the Skins. Will Thrash be a one-week wonder or has Jason Campbell finally found his money receiver??
  • FootballDocs' Week 11 Pickup/Drop Advice has been telling us for several weeks now about the value of Chris Henry (WR) and his 99 yards yesterday certainly was impressive. If he's available in your league, get him.
  • The Bruno Boys bring you a special edition of Work the Wire, the Waiver Wire with their Waiver Wire Mid-Season Master List. This is the first of a two part series - the rest will be out later this week.
As always, I'll be back tomorrow with more links to those free agents you should be targeting this week. Enjoy MNF tonight!

A hiatus

Update:  It is with a very heavy heart that I tell you all that yesterday, August 30th, I delivered our stillborn daughter, Caroline Mary. This has been an almost surreal and definitely heartbreaking experience and I appreciate the support in each and every one of your notes. Caroline will be honored and loved always. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your thoughts and prayers - they mean the world to our family. I have been a very poor blogger this month and feel I owe you all an explanation, particularly as this is crunch time for draft prep. I hope this is not too personal of a look into my life since I know most of you are just here for the football. I am nearly 18 weeks pregnant and we have learned that our baby (a little girl!) has triploidy, a chromosomal abnormality that means she has three copies of every chromosome instead of the normal two. The doctors have explained that it's a completely random occurrence and fairly rare that she has made it this far along, but tha...

Labor Day FF links

Happy long weekend! Here's hoping most of you are free to enjoy the 3-day weekend and the relaxation and fun that comes with it. I spent my Sunday participating in 3 fantasy football drafts scattered throughout the day and night, but I think I've finally wrapped up my drafts for the year. So like many of you I'm now turning my attention to the Week 1 games! But before we get to some player rankings and prep for Week 1, I want to make sure that all you experts out there are aware of the upcoming deadline for the annual accuracy contest that I run with the Fantasy Sports Trade Association. I compare preseason positional rankings from experts to the final outcome of the fantasy season to see which site had the most accurate preseason rankings, and this year's deadline is fast approaching: September 9th by kickoff. Check out the info on the FSTA site for more details and be sure to e-mail me your submissions. Now, onto Week 1! First up, let's get to some of this...

2014 Average Position Rankings spreadsheet

Friends, I've got a first draft of the 2014 Average Position Rankings spreadsheet up here as a google doc. If you're new to this annual spreadsheet or need a refresher, here's the scoop. I take the top 200 or so overall rankings that are freely offered by a handful of sites and I average out their rankings for each player. I also take the standard deviation to see how a player's rankings differ among experts, and add that in as another component to give you a sense of how much consensus there is on a player. I drew from the following sites this year: FFToolbox, CBSSports.com (both Jamey and Dave), ESPN, FFCalc's ADP, The Fake Football, The Football Girl, NFL.com, DavidGonos.com, SI, Yahoo, FantasyPros.com, and RealTime Fantasy Sports. All offered roughly a top 200 overall ranking and you can see each site's ranking (gathered 8/20/14) in the second tab on the spreadsheet. You'll see that I really haven't fleshed it out a ton yet - I still have to ge...
