2009 RB analysis and beyond

Gotta be quick today, my fantasy football fans. I'm flying to good ol' Grand Rapids, Michigan later this week for my grandma's 90th birthday so I've got a busier week at work than usual. So read up on today's brief list of links...
  • NFL.com takes a look at the top rookies and what kind of fantasy impact they might have in Moreno, Wells headline top fantasy rookies after NFL Draft - I'm seriously starting to think that the impossible might happen = the Broncos might have one lead runner; the RBBC might be dying off in Denver. Could it be?? Am I getting swept up in a Knowshon lovefest? Possible.
  • The Jets and Gregg Rosenthal agree - there's a big drop-off in rookie running backs after Shonn Greene. I of course am waiting for Northwestern's Tyrell Sutton to make an unexpected splash this season (might be waiting a long time since he hasn't exactly signed with a team yet...) but it is interesting to see that there are really just a few rookie RBs that might have a fantasy impact.
  • With all this talk of rookie RBs, don't forget there are other RBs lurking in the shadows like BenJarvus Green-Ellis (yes, I kind of just wanted the chance to type his name) - take a look at Fantasy Football Fools for some analysis on backs that you might be seeing more of this season in Forget them not: Ten dynasty running backs for keepers and sleepers.
  • Every year there are undrafted players that have an impact during their first season, sometimes even warranting fantasy attention. CBS Sports takes a look at some of those top undrafted players in Best remaining: Leftovers have talent and market.

Thanks for sharing a link to my article on not-so-rookie RBs. I too hope BenJarvus graces the fantasy ranks again this season simply because his name is so much fun to type.

Update:  It is with a very heavy heart that I tell you all that yesterday, August 30th, I delivered our stillborn daughter, Caroline Mary. Labor Day FF links

Happy long weekend! Here's hoping most of you are free to enjoy the 3-day weekend and the relaxation and fun that comes with it. I spent my Sunday participating in 3 fantasy football drafts scattered throughout the day and night, but I think I've finally wrapped up my drafts for the year. So like many of you I'm now turning my attention to the Week 1 games! But before we get to some player rankings and prep for Week 1, I want to make sure that all you experts out there are aware of the upcoming deadline for the annual accuracy contest that I run with the Fantasy Sports Trade Association. I compare preseason positional rankings from experts to the final outcome of the fantasy season to see which site had the most accurate preseason rankings, and this year's deadline is fast approaching: September 9th by kickoff. 2014 Average Position Rankings spreadsheet

Friends, I've got a first draft of the 2014 Average Position Rankings spreadsheet up here as a google doc. If you're new to this annual spreadsheet or need a refresher, here's the scoop. I take the top 200 or so overall rankings that are freely offered by a handful of sites and I average out their rankings for each player. I also take the standard deviation to see how a player's rankings differ among experts, and add that in as another component to give you a sense of how much consensus there is on a player. I drew from the following sites this year: FFToolbox, CBSSports.com (both Jamey and Dave), ESPN, FFCalc's ADP, The Fake Football, The Football Girl, NFL.com, DavidGonos.com, SI, Yahoo, FantasyPros.com, and RealTime Fantasy Sports. All offered roughly a top 200 overall ranking and you can see each site's ranking (gathered 8/20/14) in the second tab on the spreadsheet.
