FFL Challenge still going! And keeper thoughts...

For those who have forgotten (or are just too far behind to have a horse in this race), the NFL.com's Playoff Challenge is still going on - meaning the FF Librarian's Challenge is still in full force with 50's Big Perms in the lead with 295 points. I am in third place in our FFL challenge but sadly in 3366th place overall amongst the rest of the NFL.com competitors. Hopefully I'll make up some ground there with 7 players in my roster for the Super Bowl. I was toying around with my RB options since I have a hole there now without Grant...I'm ultimately going with Jacobs (my other RB is Maroney) but I did think about Bradshaw - until I read this article from Accuscore: Ahmad Bradshaw in Focus and I realized that regardless of Bradshaw's recent quality performances, I would be crazy not to start Jacobs.

Other football thoughts for the day:
  • If you're in a keeper league and trying to make some big decisions about your roster (like do you keep LT or AP, yes seriously, someone actually had that very sweet dilemma), check out NFL.com's Fantasy Mailbag for answers from Michael Fabiano.
  • There's a lot of stuff on Gregg Rosenthal's blog about the Super Bowl and I'm not sure which bit I liked the best since I'm trying to live vicariously through them all, but try Setting the Scene just to get a feel for the media mayhem in Arizona.
  • Wondering how the newbie QBs of 2007 might fare in the future? Try Pro Football Reference's Similarity Scores for New 2007 Quarterbacks, which compares 2007's QBs to all QBs who have played since 1978 to get an idea of which players/seasons they can be considered comparable to based on their performance this year. Interesting stuff.
  • Know who the announcers will be on Sunday for the SB? And which announcers would you be most interested in hearing?
  • Want some keeper rankings? Try Sports Grumblings' 2008 RB Keeper League Chart for some ideas.

A hiatus

Update:  It is with a very heavy heart that I tell you all that yesterday, August 30th, I delivered our stillborn daughter, Caroline Mary. This has been an almost surreal and definitely heartbreaking experience and I appreciate the support in each and every one of your notes. Caroline will be honored and loved always. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your thoughts and prayers - they mean the world to our family. I have been a very poor blogger this month and feel I owe you all an explanation, particularly as this is crunch time for draft prep. I hope this is not too personal of a look into my life since I know most of you are just here for the football. I am nearly 18 weeks pregnant and we have learned that our baby (a little girl!) has triploidy, a chromosomal abnormality that means she has three copies of every chromosome instead of the normal two. The doctors have explained that it's a completely random occurrence and fairly rare that she has made it this far along, but tha...

Labor Day FF links

Happy long weekend! Here's hoping most of you are free to enjoy the 3-day weekend and the relaxation and fun that comes with it. I spent my Sunday participating in 3 fantasy football drafts scattered throughout the day and night, but I think I've finally wrapped up my drafts for the year. So like many of you I'm now turning my attention to the Week 1 games! But before we get to some player rankings and prep for Week 1, I want to make sure that all you experts out there are aware of the upcoming deadline for the annual accuracy contest that I run with the Fantasy Sports Trade Association. I compare preseason positional rankings from experts to the final outcome of the fantasy season to see which site had the most accurate preseason rankings, and this year's deadline is fast approaching: September 9th by kickoff. Check out the info on the FSTA site for more details and be sure to e-mail me your submissions. Now, onto Week 1! First up, let's get to some of this...

Guest post: WRs with a stellar SOS

Greetings, FFers and welcome to the start of a long weekend. To celebrate I have two posts for you today. Later in the day I'll have some links to get you through the weekend but first up, I thought I'd post a little something new to FFLibrarian. This summer I'll be rolling out a series of articles from Cris who has his own site that I've linked to several times since last fall - it's definitely a bit of a departure from my usual linking here on FFLibrarian so I'd love your feedback. Feel free to leave comments for either Cris or me in the comments section or via e-mail . Below you'll see an excerpt from his recommendations for wide receivers that you might want to consider based on a strength of schedule (SOS) that is his combination of fantasy points against, average draft position, and yards per attempt. Note the special emphasis here on the fantasy playoffs, Weeks 14-16. If you'd like to read the rest of Cris' rankings for team wide receivers,...
