Winding up for Week 3

Happy Monday, fantasy football fans - with just one more game to go tonight, I hope many of you are already staring down a win. First off, I'd like to thank Deion Branch for apparently hearing my cries of dismay last weekend and putting up much, much better numbers yesterday. I'll take 122 yards any day.

A few Broncos items to note - Jason Elam is awesome. I know I've mentioned this before but he has now won two games for the Broncos in back-to-back clutch kicking situations. Elam, you really are #1. And I think I was right to imagine big things for Brandon Stokley - honestly, the Broncos Brandons (the other one being Brandon Marshall) might be some of my favorite sleepers for the year...

Back to fantasy advice. Check out the always early Bruno Boys' Work the Wire, the Waiver Wire - Week 2 edition. I'm in need of a TE and am intrigued by their suggestion of Donald Lee - by the way, Bubba Franks is actually still around in GB?

Try getting caught up on the weekend with SI's Sunday's Best: Week 2 for a review of the studs, duds, and surprises out there.

Check out PAFFL.com's listing of Hot Free Agent/Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 3. Or Fantasy Football Goat's Fantasy Football Waiver Wire and Sleepers Watch Week 2 - the Goat likes to include some less common picks, so give it a look (and this list will be updated after tonight's game if necessary).

All for now - there will be loads of sit and start sites coming up later this week as well as rankings, projections, whatever else you might want. Enjoy the game tonight!

A hiatus

Update:  It is with a very heavy heart that I tell you all that yesterday, August 30th, I delivered our stillborn daughter, Caroline Mary. This has been an almost surreal and definitely heartbreaking experience and I appreciate the support in each and every one of your notes. Caroline will be honored and loved always. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your thoughts and prayers - they mean the world to our family. I have been a very poor blogger this month and feel I owe you all an explanation, particularly as this is crunch time for draft prep. I hope this is not too personal of a look into my life since I know most of you are just here for the football. I am nearly 18 weeks pregnant and we have learned that our baby (a little girl!) has triploidy, a chromosomal abnormality that means she has three copies of every chromosome instead of the normal two. The doctors have explained that it's a completely random occurrence and fairly rare that she has made it this far along, but tha...

Labor Day FF links

Happy long weekend! Here's hoping most of you are free to enjoy the 3-day weekend and the relaxation and fun that comes with it. I spent my Sunday participating in 3 fantasy football drafts scattered throughout the day and night, but I think I've finally wrapped up my drafts for the year. So like many of you I'm now turning my attention to the Week 1 games! But before we get to some player rankings and prep for Week 1, I want to make sure that all you experts out there are aware of the upcoming deadline for the annual accuracy contest that I run with the Fantasy Sports Trade Association. I compare preseason positional rankings from experts to the final outcome of the fantasy season to see which site had the most accurate preseason rankings, and this year's deadline is fast approaching: September 9th by kickoff. Check out the info on the FSTA site for more details and be sure to e-mail me your submissions. Now, onto Week 1! First up, let's get to some of this...

2014 Average Position Rankings spreadsheet

Friends, I've got a first draft of the 2014 Average Position Rankings spreadsheet up here as a google doc. If you're new to this annual spreadsheet or need a refresher, here's the scoop. I take the top 200 or so overall rankings that are freely offered by a handful of sites and I average out their rankings for each player. I also take the standard deviation to see how a player's rankings differ among experts, and add that in as another component to give you a sense of how much consensus there is on a player. I drew from the following sites this year: FFToolbox, CBSSports.com (both Jamey and Dave), ESPN, FFCalc's ADP, The Fake Football, The Football Girl, NFL.com, DavidGonos.com, SI, Yahoo, FantasyPros.com, and RealTime Fantasy Sports. All offered roughly a top 200 overall ranking and you can see each site's ranking (gathered 8/20/14) in the second tab on the spreadsheet. You'll see that I really haven't fleshed it out a ton yet - I still have to ge...
