30 great years

Today is my 30th birthday and I had grand visions of providing you all with 30 links to celebrate. Right now that seems a bit ambitious since the sun is shining and a trail near our house is calling my name...
All for now - I'm off to go enjoy the day and celebrate! Have a good weekend.

Happy Birthday!

I have to say that I have not been a fan of fantasy football magazines for a few years. It's a major turnoff for me when the content in a magazine I hand over cash for is months old. I specifically remember Jamal Lewis still being listed on the Ravens the year he went to the Browns (in March of 2008) in one reputable magazine.

Anyway, the Football Guys Mag is my mag of choice as we speak because it is out and the price is right so people should know about it.

You have a great birthday kid!

Hey Lee,

FBG's did not put out a Mag (in print form) this year. It is on a disk.

Happy B-Day.
Big fan of Football Guys. I checked out their mag for the first time this morning. It's really good. Not a magazine guy anymore, but theirs is highly recommended for all fantasy owners. I also wanted to say that I really like your site. Never really thought blogging was worth the time, but decided to try it out this year. There's a lot of great material out there. Since I'm addicted to fantasy football, I decided to create my my own blog and get in on the fun. I added your site to my blog roll. Check it out.

A hiatus

Update:  It is with a very heavy heart that I tell you all that yesterday, August 30th, I delivered our stillborn daughter, Caroline Mary. This has been an almost surreal and definitely heartbreaking experience and I appreciate the support in each and every one of your notes. Caroline will be honored and loved always. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your thoughts and prayers - they mean the world to our family. I have been a very poor blogger this month and feel I owe you all an explanation, particularly as this is crunch time for draft prep. I hope this is not too personal of a look into my life since I know most of you are just here for the football. I am nearly 18 weeks pregnant and we have learned that our baby (a little girl!) has triploidy, a chromosomal abnormality that means she has three copies of every chromosome instead of the normal two. The doctors have explained that it's a completely random occurrence and fairly rare that she has made it this far along, but tha...

Labor Day FF links

Happy long weekend! Here's hoping most of you are free to enjoy the 3-day weekend and the relaxation and fun that comes with it. I spent my Sunday participating in 3 fantasy football drafts scattered throughout the day and night, but I think I've finally wrapped up my drafts for the year. So like many of you I'm now turning my attention to the Week 1 games! But before we get to some player rankings and prep for Week 1, I want to make sure that all you experts out there are aware of the upcoming deadline for the annual accuracy contest that I run with the Fantasy Sports Trade Association. I compare preseason positional rankings from experts to the final outcome of the fantasy season to see which site had the most accurate preseason rankings, and this year's deadline is fast approaching: September 9th by kickoff. Check out the info on the FSTA site for more details and be sure to e-mail me your submissions. Now, onto Week 1! First up, let's get to some of this...

2014 Average Position Rankings spreadsheet

Friends, I've got a first draft of the 2014 Average Position Rankings spreadsheet up here as a google doc. If you're new to this annual spreadsheet or need a refresher, here's the scoop. I take the top 200 or so overall rankings that are freely offered by a handful of sites and I average out their rankings for each player. I also take the standard deviation to see how a player's rankings differ among experts, and add that in as another component to give you a sense of how much consensus there is on a player. I drew from the following sites this year: FFToolbox, CBSSports.com (both Jamey and Dave), ESPN, FFCalc's ADP, The Fake Football, The Football Girl, NFL.com, DavidGonos.com, SI, Yahoo, FantasyPros.com, and RealTime Fantasy Sports. All offered roughly a top 200 overall ranking and you can see each site's ranking (gathered 8/20/14) in the second tab on the spreadsheet. You'll see that I really haven't fleshed it out a ton yet - I still have to ge...
