A hiatus

Update:  It is with a very heavy heart that I tell you all that yesterday, August 30th, I delivered our stillborn daughter, Caroline Mary. This has been an almost surreal and definitely heartbreaking experience and I appreciate the support in each and every one of your notes. Caroline will be honored and loved always. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your thoughts and prayers - they mean the world to our family.

I have been a very poor blogger this month and feel I owe you all an explanation, particularly as this is crunch time for draft prep. I hope this is not too personal of a look into my life since I know most of you are just here for the football. I am nearly 18 weeks pregnant and we have learned that our baby (a little girl!) has triploidy, a chromosomal abnormality that means she has three copies of every chromosome instead of the normal two. The doctors have explained that it's a completely random occurrence and fairly rare that she has made it this far along, but that ultimately she has a condition that is incompatible with life. My husband and I are blessed with an amazing almost-2-year-old son, as I'm sure you know if you've been around the blog long enough, and this situation has just completely blindsided us.

The next few weeks are going to be extremely complex and emotional for me and while I would like nothing more than to stay entertained by posting on the blog and enjoying all the awesomeness of fantasy football, I can't muster up the energy to do so these days. I am deeply sorry for this since I honestly enjoy being able to get you guys linked out to resources. Be patient with me. I will be back and posting again this fall, I just don't know when. Hopefully I'll be back around the first week or two of the season but until then, there are so many tremendous resources out there, many of which you'll find over under Fantasy Football Content on the right. Don't forget to stay tuned to the news via sites like Footballguys, Rotoworld, or Draft Sharks. And I always endorse checking out FantasyPros.com for consensus rankings and such.

I am still running my annual accuracy competition, which was announced by the FSTA today. If you would like to submit your rankings for inclusion, please see the template and info on the FSTA website and e-mail them in to us by September 5. I encourage rankings to come at the last minute to account for all preseason news/injuries.

If it's not asking too much, please send positive thoughts and prayers for my family. I am sure many of you have been in similar shoes or just know the pain of losing a loved one.

So here's to the start of the season: may you draft well, start/bench wisely, and reign as the kings/queens of your leagues!

Please get a second and third opinion. My wife was 19 months pregnant when the doctors thought her amniotic sac had ruptured, leaving us with the option of aborting our baby or hoping the baby survives to at least 25 weeks with a horrific prognosis of birth defects if she did. Turns out my wife's amniotic sac had NOT ruptured; urine was leaking through a tear in her bladder! Phew! Man we were going crazy for a couple of days there.

Doctors are not always right. Please get another opinion or two. God bless.

Sara, I am so sory that you and your family have to go through this. Our hearts and thoughts are with you. I have to echo the last post...that a second opinion is a very good idea. We had a similar experience with our completely healthy 2 1/2 year old...doctors guess at more than they know.

FF Librarian--I have enjoyed your blog the past few years....in the beginning I had no idea you were a woman until you started talking about having your first child. Having a one year old boy, I appreciate everything so much more. Our first pregnancy didn't make it past the first tri-mester. I thought I would be devestated...and I was...but I was able to bounce back fairly quickly because of so many friends who had talked openly about their issues. It unfortunately happens and hopefully, you have a strong support system and the love of your family. Football is such a great way to keep your mind occupied. As your fans have said, take your time...but when you're ready, we'll be here!

FFL, When our son was almost two, my wife was in her first trimester when we received a similar prognosis. We were not able to bring the baby to term. It will always be a tender spot in our family history, and even now, years later and after being blessed with a healthy little girl after trying again, your situation stirs emotional memories. I do wish that someone around us at the time had been able to articulate it half so well as you, though, when to say that the condition is incompatible with life. Beautifully put. It demonstrates and imparts a perspective that is hard to come by in such gut-wrenching episodes. Thank you for sharing. Our thoughts are with you.

I don't know if you are on facebook, but a friend of mine started a little group after she lost her twins shortly after their birth. It's just a small group of women who have all experienced the loss of a child. Our loss was several years ago but it has been really nice to be part of this little community. You would be more than welcome to join us at some point if you feel like it might be nice to have some extra support now or down the road.

I use your site regularly in-season. it always prompts me to subconsciously degrade my own wife and her hobbies of beading and bizarre aerobics as opposed to fantasy football. I almost never comment here or anywhere else on the interweb, though. I just read your post after checking the site for the first time since December '11. My wife delivered healthy triplets this summer after a high-risk pregnancy with two particularly frightening ER visits due to slow heartbeats and early contractions. Although your situation is beyond compare, we did experience some of the acute fears of what is now your reality, so your story resonated with me. I hope and pray you find strength in your family, your religion, whatever or whomever is dear to you. Hug your son and your husband.

You are my first source when I decide to spend a few minutes on Fantasy Football. That said this is all fluff compared to the real life issues we bump into. My first grand-daughter was born with Down syndrome, which was a complete shock to us - never having had to deal with a disability before. It was unsettling to say the least, but she has grown up to be a lovely young lady. All because of an extra set of chromosomes. I wish you all the best in these unsettled times and look forward to a return of your full productivity in the future.

God bless you and your family. My wife and I were blessed with a beautiful baby girl almost 7 years ago now. My wife and I decided to try and have another baby when our first was 3 years old. At week 8 of her 2nd pregnancy, she had a miscarriage. We were devastated. After a year had passed, we tried again and were successful, only to have the exact same horrible experience happen. Again, we were deeply saddened and emotionally crushed. Due to ever increasing health risks for my wife, we decided to not have anymore children. Despite not being able to have anymore children with the love of my life & my soulmate, we know we are truly blessed to have such a wonderful little girl! May God grant you and your family strength and guidance through this most difficult time in your life. Those of us who have been following your blog for awhile will be here waiting anxiously for your return. Now is the time for family. Peace and love to you!

I'm so sorry to hear that your family is dealing with something so awful. There are no words, of course, save love. I hope you can take comfort in your husband and son, and, to a far lesser degree, in knowing that a bunch of strangers are thinking of you, and your family, and hoping, maybe knowing, that this will be awful, and that you will be ok.

I'm so, so sorry that your family is experiencing something so hard, so awful. There are no words, of course, save love. I hope that you are able to take comfort in your son, and husband, and to a lesser degree in the thoughts and well wishes of so many strangers who wish, truly, that you weren't at the center of such hurt.

Ditto to all the condolences and prayers already posted. I really enjoy your football info but you as a writer is what keeps me returning. Being yourself is a gift a lot of writers just can't do. Thank you for that

Really sorry you're going through this. A young couple on FB set up a prayer group for their 2 yr old who had cancer. Unfortunately he didn't make it - but the love expressed and the celebration of his life - and the couple involved may be a place for you to turn.

You have given us the cream of the crop info since you began your blog. The least we can all do is pray for you and wish you and your family godspeed. Noone deserves our best thoughts as much as you do. Please do not feel any undo obligation to us to rush your return.

Dont' apologise! Fantasy football is not a priority. My wife and I are expecting and I don't know what I would do upon finding out what you are going through.

Thank you for all your emails over the last couple of years. Great information. Take care and know that people are thinking about you, your husband, and your family!

My thoughts are with you and your family Sara. I can't imagine the thoughts and emotions going through you. Don't worry about your blog readers. We will make do with other avenues until the best can get back! Until then may you and your family be well.

I just started researching for my draft and ended up on your site.

I just wanted to let you know that I'm praying for you, your family and unborn baby.

Sara,

We appreciate the suggestion that we just come to your blog for the fantasy football, but regular readers have come to appreciate the personal aspects that come with the reference resources: stories of NYC, Colorado and Tennessee weather, people, jobs and family. You, Sara, make this site more than just crunched numbers and hyperlinks.

Your regular readers wish you and your family strength in this trying time, and urge you to get back to numbers, hyperlinks, and stories as soon as you're ready.

Labor Day FF links

Happy long weekend! Here's hoping most of you are free to enjoy the 3-day weekend and the relaxation and fun that comes with it. I spent my Sunday participating in 3 fantasy football drafts scattered throughout the day and night, but I think I've finally wrapped up my drafts for the year. So like many of you I'm now turning my attention to the Week 1 games! But before we get to some player rankings and prep for Week 1, I want to make sure that all you experts out there are aware of the upcoming deadline for the annual accuracy contest that I run with the Fantasy Sports Trade Association. I compare preseason positional rankings from experts to the final outcome of the fantasy season to see which site had the most accurate preseason rankings, and this year's deadline is fast approaching: September 9th by kickoff. Check out the info on the FSTA site for more details and be sure to e-mail me your submissions. Now, onto Week 1! First up, let's get to some of this

2010 Week 2 consensus start/sit

Greetings and happy weekend. I've got this week's consensus start/sit for you which is a tally of all the start/sit votes that players received in the various start/sit articles that I linked to earlier in the week. So while these aren't my personal recommendations, I do think knowing what the consensus is could be of help when making lineup decisions...so enjoy! Note: the players are listed in no particular order. QB Start: Michael Vick, Kyle Orton, Matt Ryan, Jason Campbell Sit: David Garrard, Alex Smith, Jay Cutler, Vince Young, Carson Palmer RB Start: LeSean McCoy, Darren McFadden, Ahmad Bradshaw, Brandon Jackson Sit: Tim Hightower, C.J. Spiller, Beanie Wells, Ronnie Brown WR Start: Santana Moss, Legedu Naanee, Malcolm Floyd, Mike Williams (TB), Dez Bryant Sit: Randy Moss, Michael Crabtree TE Start: Chris Cooley, Todd Heap, John Carlson, Jermichael Finley Sit: Jermaine Gresham, Owen Daniels, Tony Scheffler, Jeremy Shockey, Bo Scaife Kicker Start: La

Start/Sit Week 4 and a smattering of rankings

It's been awhile, my fantasy football friends. I have lofty intentions of getting several posts up here each week, but life is busy and I will do my best. So in the intervening 6 years since I've posted regularly on here, our family added another child (now there are 3!), moved back to Boulder for a sabbatical year and then returned to Knoxville, and we have basically been chugging along like many of the rest of you. My two boys (who turn 12 and 9 soon) are in a fantasy football league for the first time this year with their buddies, which ostensibly is the just the dads (and mom!) playing one another of course. But my oldest is taking it super seriously and what kind of Fantasy Football Librarian would I be if I didn't step up my game for him? So I'm back - and am interested in the fantasy landscape - lots of the same awesome sites out there, but many new ones as well. I'll try to incorporate a mix. Please be sure to let me know if my 2006 ways aren't working i
