Quick links and contest reminder

My in-laws came into town last night so I've actually spent most of today NOT thinking about football but just being a Boulder tourist. Can you believe it's possible to not think about football during this time of the year?

First, a quick reminder that you have about 30 minutes left (as of this posting) to get your picks in for the contest for the RB with the most rushing yards during this weeks' games. Send me an e-mail with the back and his numbers and if you're the closest one to the correct answer you'll win a free one-year subscription to Fantasy Football Extreme. Smitty from FFXtreme and I are in a draft together which has been drafting for several days now - here's an article from Smitty on our draft. And speaking of our draft, I gave you all a recap of who I had on my team as of round 7 and here is who I have now through round 11:

The league starts 3 WRs so I think that's my biggest weakness (especially with all of the Chad Johnson injury mystery that has since come out over the past few days)...but you never know!

Anyway, here are a few quick links for the day:
  • Ultimate Fantasy Football Strategy has updated their rankings - they've got PPR and non-PPR rankings.
  • Steven Jackson ends his holdout, allowing all Jackson owners and admirers a chance to breathe a sigh of relief.
  • Fabiano's NFL.com blog had a few interesting tidbits, such as Kevin Curtis' surgery that will put him out "for awhile" (giving rookie DeSean Jackson a big bump), and insider info that Fabiano received on McGahee's knee and why we might not want to have a whole lot of faith in his running game this year.
  • Finally, ProFootballWeekly has some solid preseason thoughts up in Fitz on Fantasy - I really like this quick style of updates; gives you what you need without too much extra info. Nicely done PFW.

I see you picked Selvin Young so you are not concerned with Nelan the center having some more work on his knee? Didn’t the backup center from last year go to the Texans. What are your thoughts?

Update:  It is with a very heavy heart that I tell you all that yesterday, August 30th, I delivered our stillborn daughter, Caroline Mary. Labor Day FF links

Happy long weekend! Here's hoping most of you are free to enjoy the 3-day weekend and the relaxation and fun that comes with it. I spent my Sunday participating in 3 fantasy football drafts scattered throughout the day and night, but I think I've finally wrapped up my drafts for the year. So like many of you I'm now turning my attention to the Week 1 games! But before we get to some player rankings and prep for Week 1, I want to make sure that all you experts out there are aware of the upcoming deadline for the annual accuracy contest that I run with the Fantasy Sports Trade Association. I compare preseason positional rankings from experts to the final outcome of the fantasy season to see which site had the most accurate preseason rankings, and this year's deadline is fast approaching: September 9th by kickoff. 2014 Average Position Rankings spreadsheet

Friends, I've got a first draft of the 2014 Average Position Rankings spreadsheet up here as a google doc. If you're new to this annual spreadsheet or need a refresher, here's the scoop. I take the top 200 or so overall rankings that are freely offered by a handful of sites and I average out their rankings for each player. I also take the standard deviation to see how a player's rankings differ among experts, and add that in as another component to give you a sense of how much consensus there is on a player. I drew from the following sites this year: FFToolbox, CBSSports.com (both Jamey and Dave), ESPN, FFCalc's ADP, The Fake Football, The Football Girl, NFL.com, DavidGonos.com, SI, Yahoo, FantasyPros.com, and RealTime Fantasy Sports. All offered roughly a top 200 overall ranking and you can see each site's ranking (gathered 8/20/14) in the second tab on the spreadsheet.
