Waivering all day long

Silver lining to being sick? More links for you all. I mean there's only so many times I can stand to see repeat coverage of the candidates voting this morning and only so many episodes of House that I can take in during one day. And to top it off, there are just so many more excellent articles to link to today that I'm just going to keep the waiver party going here...
  • FFToday's Through the Wire - I love this waiver wire article. If you limit yourself to just one waiver piece, Through the Wire should be it. Now a guy I didn't see listed here is Derrick Ward and I would love to have Antonio's opinion on that guy since I'm debating between Ward and Norwood for Week 10. Yes, I realize the crappiness of my options, but that's how the fantasy cookie crumbles.
  • Don't discount the rest of the awesome waiver wire articles though, like SportingNews.com's Wire tap: Charles in charge. So I'm going to admit that I'm pretty hesitant about picking up Ray Rice. I can't put my finger on why exactly, other than the rise of LeRon earlier this season and existence of Willis, but I feel like there could be a lot of ups and downs with Rice for the rest of the season. I think next season is really when Rice's value will become obvious but by all means, grab the guy if you've got a hole to plug - just be prepared for an unreliable RB.
  • Rotoworld's Waiver Wired: Quarterback Quandries - In his article here Chris Wesseling confesses to being a charter member of the Byron Leftwich fan club and really after his performance last night who doesn't love the guy? Other than Big Ben owners of course.
  • Lester's Legends Bye Week Alternatives - Week 10 is just what the doctor ordered if you've got some slots to fill from this final bye week.
  • Finally, more waiver wire advice from the Fantasy Sharks' Week Ten Waiver Wire Pickups - I'm seeing JJ Arrington all over waiver wire articles. It seems to me that benching the Edge might have been done to encourage the guy a bit, no? Maybe not, I'm hardly an expert in the ways of encouraging the Edge but I mean a total and complete lack of Edgerrin James last week doesn't add up. I think Hightower is certainly the man to have in Arizona but I would wager that the Edge will be back on the scene with a handful of carries - in addition to Arrington. And therefore Arrington and Edge both become rather unfantasy worthy. It's just a guess, but it's something to think about before you start snagging Arrington in every league for your RB3 or flex spot.

I agree about Rice. I just can't get excited about him when it's so hard to predict who'll be playing, let alone playing well, in Baltimore.

It seems like clear-cut starters (due to injury, suspension, etc.) like Jamaal Charles or potentially Torain would be a better bet.

I just took a flier and stashed Torain, as I'm fortunate enough to have the depth to do so. Id I needed an immediate starter for this week, though, I would've gone with Charles.

As a Raven's fan, I think Rice can be valuable depending on your league. My league is a PPR league with 1 point/10 yards gained. Rice had been getting about 60 yards and 3-4 receptions over the past few weeks before getting the start in week 9. My other options at RB are weak enough, and my league is so deep, that even if Rice goes back to those numbers, he could very well be my best option for RB2. He is certainly not for everyone though.

Also Rice is definitely ahead of McLain on the depth chart but McLain has been used at the goal line, so that limits Rice's value even further.

Happy long weekend! Here's hoping most of you are free to enjoy the 3-day weekend and the relaxation and fun that comes with it. I spent my Sunday participating in 3 fantasy football drafts scattered throughout the day and night, but I think I've finally wrapped up my drafts for the year. Start/Sit Week 4 and a smattering of rankings

It's been awhile, my fantasy football friends. I have lofty intentions of getting several posts up here each week, but life is busy and I will do my best. So in the intervening 6 years since I've posted regularly on here, our family added another child (now there are 3!), moved back to Boulder for a sabbatical year and then returned to Knoxville, and we have basically been chugging along like many of the rest of you. My two boys (who turn 12 and 9 soon) are in a fantasy football league for the first time this year with their buddies, which ostensibly is the just the dads (and mom!) playing one another of course. But my oldest is taking it super seriously and what kind of Fantasy Football Librarian would I be if I didn't step up my game for him? So I'm back - and am interested in the fantasy landscape - lots of the same awesome sites out there, but many new ones as well. I'll try to incorporate a mix.
