Rankings, draft kits, contests: it's all here, baby!

Greetings! A quick update on the FFL league: all of spots have been taken in the monster FFLibrarian League and I'll be e-mailing out the last couple of invites in the next hour or so. Many of you who are playing have asked about rules and the draft set up - I'll be e-mailing all of the franchises with more details in the next few days so just stay tuned.

I have a hard time falling in love with Jennings, as good as he is. Touchdowns are woefully inconsistent for wide receivers, and Jennings seems to derive more value from them than any of the other "elite" receivers. Jennings has a very high TD/reception rate. If he can continue that, he is an historic receiver, but if he regresses to the mean, he is little better than a WR2/3...

I don't want to pile on here, and I agree with the good doctor on the risk surrounding Turner, but I think all the talk of the "Curse of 370" misses a large point. Crappy running backs don't get to pile up 370+ carries in a season. No coach this side of Herm Edwards would give 25 carries a game to a guy averaging 3 yards a carry. So you have two issues that combine to kill the value of RB's with over 370 carries; 1) a general decline in performance due to injury or wear and tear, and 2) a regression to something approximating their career mean. Michael Turner is a good running back, but I don't know if he is as good as he was last year.
I ranted and raved last week about how he was a poor choice in PPR leagues assuming he keeps the same stats from last year, but what if his YPC declines by half a yard? What happens to his value if he not only averages half a yard less a carry, but loses 75 carries to Jerious Norwood? As said, I like Michael Turner, but not as a safe 1st round pick.

Update:  It is with a very heavy heart that I tell you all that yesterday, August 30th, I delivered our stillborn daughter, Caroline Mary. Labor Day FF links

Happy long weekend! Here's hoping most of you are free to enjoy the 3-day weekend and the relaxation and fun that comes with it. I spent my Sunday participating in 3 fantasy football drafts scattered throughout the day and night, but I think I've finally wrapped up my drafts for the year. So like many of you I'm now turning my attention to the Week 1 games! But before we get to some player rankings and prep for Week 1, I want to make sure that all you experts out there are aware of the upcoming deadline for the annual accuracy contest that I run with the Fantasy Sports Trade Association. I compare preseason positional rankings from experts to the final outcome of the fantasy season to see which site had the most accurate preseason rankings, and this year's deadline is fast approaching: September 9th by kickoff. 2014 Average Position Rankings spreadsheet

Friends, I've got a first draft of the 2014 Average Position Rankings spreadsheet up here as a google doc. If you're new to this annual spreadsheet or need a refresher, here's the scoop. I take the top 200 or so overall rankings that are freely offered by a handful of sites and I average out their rankings for each player. I also take the standard deviation to see how a player's rankings differ among experts, and add that in as another component to give you a sense of how much consensus there is on a player. I drew from the following sites this year: FFToolbox, CBSSports.com (both Jamey and Dave), ESPN, FFCalc's ADP, The Fake Football, The Football Girl, NFL.com, DavidGonos.com, SI, Yahoo, FantasyPros.com, and RealTime Fantasy Sports. All offered roughly a top 200 overall ranking and you can see each site's ranking (gathered 8/20/14) in the second tab on the spreadsheet.
