Hindsight From Week 1

I am headed out of town today - I'm off to D.C. for the weekend and it occurred to me this morning that flying on September 11th might require a little extra time at security (or maybe no one wants to fly today?) so this is going to be a pretty brief post as I get ready to roll out to the airport.

My column for the Bruno Boys' A Librarian's Touch is up - Hindsight from Week 1. I take a look back at some of the players I started and sat from Week 1 and the outcome of those decisions. And for those who are curious, I ended Week 1 going 5-2 in my 7 leagues - fairly successful.

I've received a lot of contest entries from you all for Matt Forte and Randy Moss' yardage for Week 2 - thank you. If you're still interested in submitting a guess (and winning a subscription to FFXtreme or Fantasy Football Starters), please keep in mind that a lot of common guesses might be gone, so be creative. A hiatus

Update: It is with a very heavy heart that I tell you all that yesterday, August 30th, I delivered our stillborn daughter, Caroline Mary. This has been an almost surreal and definitely heartbreaking experience and I appreciate the support in each and every one of your notes. Caroline will be honored and loved always. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your thoughts and prayers - they mean the world to our family. I have been a very poor blogger this month and feel I owe you all an explanation, particularly as this is crunch time for draft prep. I am nearly 18 weeks pregnant and we have learned that our baby (a little girl!) has triploidy, a chromosomal abnormality that means she has three copies of every chromosome instead of the normal two. 2014 Average Position Rankings spreadsheet

Friends, I've got a first draft of the 2014 Average Position Rankings spreadsheet up here as a google doc. If you're new to this annual spreadsheet or need a refresher, here's the scoop. I take the top 200 or so overall rankings that are freely offered by a handful of sites and I average out their rankings for each player. I also take the standard deviation to see how a player's rankings differ among experts, and add that in as another component to give you a sense of how much consensus there is on a player. I drew from the following sites this year: FFToolbox, CBSSports.com (both Jamey and Dave), ESPN, FFCalc's ADP, The Fake Football, The Football Girl, NFL.com, DavidGonos.com, SI, Yahoo, FantasyPros.com, and RealTime Fantasy Sports. All offered roughly a top 200 overall ranking and you can see each site's ranking (gathered 8/20/14) in the second tab on the spreadsheet.
