Week 5 Consensus Start/Sit

Hi all - again, another brief post. I'm in Portland and getting ready to drink a little Stumptown Coffee on my way to the great Powell's bookstore. It's a bookworm's dream. But first, football.

Here are the consensus start or sit picks based on advice from 12 different experts that I linked to in my blog this week - these are the players with the most start or sit votes from the experts.

QB
Start: Jay Cutler, Philip Rivers, Brian Griese, Peyton Manning, Kyle Orton, Jake Delhomme
Sit: Matt Schaub, J.T. O'Sullivan, Kerry Collins

RB
Start: Steve Slaton, Matt, Forte, Earnest Graham, Ryan Grant, Michael Turner, Jonathan Stewart
Sit: LenDale White, Rudi Johnson, Julius Jones, Fred Taylor

WR
Start: Calvin Johnson, Chris Chambers, Greg Jennings, Lance Moore, Bernard Berrian, Randy Moss
Sit: Dwayne Bowe, Isaac Bruce - there was very little consensus on these guys in general...

TE
Start: Anthony Fasano, Chris Cooley, Greg Olsen
Sit: John Carlson, Todd Heap, Alge Crumpler

Kicker
Start: Jason Elam, Matt Bryant, John Kasay, Kris Brown
Sit: Matt Stover, Joe Nedney

I need to start two Wide-Receivers from these three. Who would you pick out of:

Steve Smith (CAR), Andre Johnson, Lance Moore

Steve Smith is a lock for sure, but Andre Johnson over Lance Moore? I'm not sure... :(
hi rushi, I would start smith and johnson even though there's a solid chance that Moore will put up better numbers than Johnson. I think you've just got to stay with Andre for a little while longer...though that might just be naive...:)
Good luck...

ah, i would qualify as a FF klutz. I benched Andre Johnson because Scahub isn't playing... and guess what.. 100 yards and a TD already for AJ.

I start Jonathan Stwart for the first time today after 4 weeks on the bench and DeAngelo Williams has 3 TDs

Another TD from either of them, and im going Hulk-angry.

Lesson of the day: Never drop your stud players (See AJ above)
They will start scoring when you least expect it. ex: Andre Johnson, Randy Moss, Housh

A hiatus

Update:  It is with a very heavy heart that I tell you all that yesterday, August 30th, I delivered our stillborn daughter, Caroline Mary. This has been an almost surreal and definitely heartbreaking experience and I appreciate the support in each and every one of your notes. Caroline will be honored and loved always. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your thoughts and prayers - they mean the world to our family. I have been a very poor blogger this month and feel I owe you all an explanation, particularly as this is crunch time for draft prep. I hope this is not too personal of a look into my life since I know most of you are just here for the football. I am nearly 18 weeks pregnant and we have learned that our baby (a little girl!) has triploidy, a chromosomal abnormality that means she has three copies of every chromosome instead of the normal two. The doctors have explained that it's a completely random occurrence and fairly rare that she has made it this far along, but tha...

Labor Day FF links

Happy long weekend! Here's hoping most of you are free to enjoy the 3-day weekend and the relaxation and fun that comes with it. I spent my Sunday participating in 3 fantasy football drafts scattered throughout the day and night, but I think I've finally wrapped up my drafts for the year. So like many of you I'm now turning my attention to the Week 1 games! But before we get to some player rankings and prep for Week 1, I want to make sure that all you experts out there are aware of the upcoming deadline for the annual accuracy contest that I run with the Fantasy Sports Trade Association. I compare preseason positional rankings from experts to the final outcome of the fantasy season to see which site had the most accurate preseason rankings, and this year's deadline is fast approaching: September 9th by kickoff. Check out the info on the FSTA site for more details and be sure to e-mail me your submissions. Now, onto Week 1! First up, let's get to some of this...

2014 Average Position Rankings spreadsheet

Friends, I've got a first draft of the 2014 Average Position Rankings spreadsheet up here as a google doc. If you're new to this annual spreadsheet or need a refresher, here's the scoop. I take the top 200 or so overall rankings that are freely offered by a handful of sites and I average out their rankings for each player. I also take the standard deviation to see how a player's rankings differ among experts, and add that in as another component to give you a sense of how much consensus there is on a player. I drew from the following sites this year: FFToolbox, CBSSports.com (both Jamey and Dave), ESPN, FFCalc's ADP, The Fake Football, The Football Girl, NFL.com, DavidGonos.com, SI, Yahoo, FantasyPros.com, and RealTime Fantasy Sports. All offered roughly a top 200 overall ranking and you can see each site's ranking (gathered 8/20/14) in the second tab on the spreadsheet. You'll see that I really haven't fleshed it out a ton yet - I still have to ge...
